Yea, I have zero sympathy. Entitled, superficial, self-absorbed, and playing the victim. I have disdain for Meghan.

I'm neutral to Megan. I'm mean I don't like being lied to so badly but then you also have to realise that's just how showbiz/politics is.

The truth is she's too dull to be dangerous. She's boring to watch and you actually have to put in an effort to keep with her.

And Kate was just as much as a schemer. She had a picture of William on her wall from the she of 13 and chose her university and course just to meet him. Well behaved women don't marry royalty.

I will say I 100% believe she was suicidal. Anyone in such a high pressure environment would feel that way. I get suicidal a couple of times a year just because the pressures of my job. It's not some outlandish, unusual feeling.

I like Kate, she’s a commoner, fits in, and is classy. No commoner who marries a royal did not want that or pine for that. Whether Kate had an image of William at 13 or Meghan stalked famous British people to marry them, it doesn’t matter to me.

I don’t believe her on the suicide bit. She wants attention. That’s what I know from my personal knowledge. Your situation is not the same and mine may not be either.

I like the Royal Soap, so casually follow British royal family gossip and have for years. IMO Kate, or perhaps more her mother, is as much of a schemer as Meghan.

They both knew what they wanted and got it, although, according to people she told, Meghan would have been happy with any super-rich British celebrity. She originally was going to try for footballers.

What people new to this drama often don't realize is that Kate and her family were savaged by the British press for years. Much worse than Meghan. The Middletons must have really wanted the title to go through all that.

And at first I thought that Kate was pretty cut-throat to target William like she seemed to, for what he was rather than who he was. Now I think she genuinely loves her kids, and is doing at least a little bit of work. Not real work, but Kate was completely useless before.

As for Meghan, you could throw a stone in LA and hit a Meghan. Virtue-signalling, hopping on the latest trend, hypocritical, status-obsessed / looks obsessed narcissists.

Neither of them are role models for women, but the one edge I'll give Meghan is that even though she was given huge advantages (private schools thanks to her now-discarded dad's sacrifices) she had to hustle, while Kate went from rich parents to obscenely-wealthy husband without her feet seeming to ever touch the ground.

Interesting. I don’t know much about Kate’s parents. I don’t think Kate is all that conniving, and I wouldn’t call her useless. I definitely wouldn’t prefer Meghan’s Californian sjw stereotype. I don’t want the shallow, self-absorbed, attention seeking superficial personality. Maybe the Middleton’s wanted the title to anoint their bourgeois status, but I don’t think Diana loved Charles either. I think there will always be a fatal flaw when looking at a woman who married royal because of jealously. I personally am not jealous and don’t want to be royal and think Kate performs her job well. I like that Kate keeps quiet, is classy and knows how to perform— that’s the job and she performs to expectations. Meghan is off script and disrespectful. I don’t give Meghan deference because of it.

I've followed the British royal family very casually since Diana first came on the scene in 1980 or 81. I was intrigued by Kate because I was very fond of Diana (I know, I'm a loser - but Diana had insane charisma). I wanted the best for William and Harry as their mother had died so young and so tragically, when they themselves were very young.

Kate did and still does very little in terms of work. For her first few years in the role she did almost nothing that wasn't somewhat fun. She's doing more now and does seem much more comfortable. I think eventually she'll be a good representative of the monarchy (I'm not a fan of monarchies beyond their entertainment value). She's certainly now exhibiting the somber dignity it requires.

Diana dove right in and was a workhorse, who had some remarkable achievements, such as changing the public's attitude towards people with AIDs. She saved lives and exuded glamor, humor and charm while doing it. Kate seems limp and lazy in contrast.

I don't think Kate herself is conniving per se, but she went along with her mother's plans for her. I think she does love William in her own way, but if he'd been an accountant she wouldn't have looked at him. William seems petulant and arrogant, so she probably doesn't have an easy life with him.

I agree regarding Meghan. She is a Whack-tress and her type is a dime-a-dozen in entertainment. I know a person who was a casual acquaintances of hers. This woman (a star F-er herself) said Meghan was pleasant enough, but her conversation was uber-California superficial (juicing, yoga, mindfulness type blah, blah, blah).

She said Meghan didn't seem to have much ambition. This was when Meghan was married to her first husband, who this woman said was a very typical hustler producer type, also a dime-a-dozen in entertainment. She said Meghan completely changed after getting the SUITS role and that her producer husband was blind-sided when she dumped him.

That's my gossip for the day - not very GC but sometimes one has to take a break ;-)

Is there a job expectation that Kate do this? I know Kate does have a charity focusing on children and women. I tend to think it's not fair to hold Kate to Diana's standard (I am indifferent about Diana) and also Diana can immediately jump in when she's been born into the same aristocratic world. Kate, while bourgeoise, was not born and bred aristocracy.

I think she does love William in her own way, but if he'd been an accountant she wouldn't have looked at him. William seems petulant and arrogant, so she probably doesn't have an easy life with him.

Personally, I think that William and Kate have a good marriage and seem to love each other. I don't consider William to be petulant nor arrogant but tend to ascribe those traits to Harry. Because this is subjective, it is a matter of interpretation.

I largely do not care about the interpersonal drama of the royals but because I'm American, I have disdain for Meghan and her behavior when it badly reflects on Americans.

Yes, there is an expectation that the "working royals" work - which means everything from attending the opening of factories to being patrons of charities.

Princess Anne, daughter of the Queen, and Sophie, wife of Prince Edward, are hard workers too (well, for royals). I'm not sure if Sophie was born into the working class, but she is the daughter of a tire salesman, and went to secretarial school IIRC, so not from an aristocratic background, although, like many of the British, seems to have distant aristocratic ancestors. Kate does too.

Some of the Queen's now elderly relatives also chipped in and did all sorts of boring engagements.

Kate's work load has been light, but she is improving. She does have three children, but Diana had two and still packed in a a lot of work.

Meghan is just a con artist, IMO. I think some of the sentiment in the UK against her is anti-Americanism, but she does embody some of the worst traits of Americans, so I don't really blame the British, especially since they had to pay for some of her expenses.
