I woke up this morning to all the talk. I was expecting this to take over a course of several months, not like this.

Seriously ? Get real. They're going to ram thru a bunch of shit that people who were brainwahsed into thinking Trump was the Anti-Christ would NEVER vote for in a million years. They know they have a subservient media who WILL.NOT.ASK.A.TOUGH.QUESTION. Because of that they'll do w/ever they want. remember, Trump was a dictator for using EO's but it's all cool b/c gropey gramps Biden is using them. Why do you think Pelosi impeached ? So that can be the main story after this week. They're going to use this time and run wild with their wish list using EO's. He is already lining up to give amnesty to 11 million illegal aliens, free everything, etc, all to placate his base who are super woke and want free shit. Too bad if everyone else has to foot the bill.

They know there re no real consequences b/c they'll just vote dump any close election in a red state with a major city that is blue, and you cannot ask any questions about 140,000 votes coming in at 3:40 am at 90 plus percent for one side. They got away with it in Nov, again in GA in Jan, and now anyone who questions vote results is a traitor.

It was amazing how florida and ohio somehow managed to count their votes pretty early, but AZ, PA, GA, WI, and MI just couldn't get it done. I hate to sound like a tin foil hat wearer, but the whole thing was just fishy when ONE candidate kept picking up massive amounts overnight after underperforming relative to pre-election polling.

Yup.

The few times I plugged Trump as the lesser of two evils here and in r/GenderCritical, there were always a few who would jump out and eviscerate me - Orange Man? Bad.

Trump's personality was not his selling point as a politician, people! He was literally just the best and only bulwark against the torrent of post-modern bullshit that's being released upon America, as well as abroad on the American taxpayer's dime.

YES, Trump is an ASSHOLE! This was a FEATURE, not a BUG! He was an asshole to the people who are hellbent on pushing this utterly moronic Critical Theory-based drivel broadly into public policy, severely hindering and in some cases even reversing the stupidity.

This legislation-via-executive-order shit is getting tiring as well - neither side's presidents have truly had the authority to dictate quasi-laws by mere decree (as well as select governors' COVID orders), but this sacrifice of women's rights on the altar of wokeness, mental-illness-as-an-identity and, frankly degeneracy-worship has pretty much been the last straw.

This is the problem with lesser evilism in the first place. Both parties are mechanisms through which the people's discontent is directed away from confrontational methods such as a strikes and protests. This is not a coincidence. It is by design. It frames the conversation between two pro-war, pro-corporation, pro-money, indifferent to systematic oppression view points. If you're willing to get so absolutely low that you're voting for the devil instead of the devil 2, but this time with a mustache, what do you even stand for?

[–]whoamiwhowhowhowho 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

It's pretty clear at this point in US history that criticism of Trump is far more legitimate than "Orange Man Bad," which is just a meme that people use to dismiss it.

YES, Trump is an ASSHOLE! This was a FEATURE, not a BUG!

No, it isn't. This is very shortsighted. If you think this about someone, there's no reason to trust them to act in your interests. I'm not even going to argue about whether it's true; it doesn't matter. The fact is that if you believe someone's terrible to others, there's no reason to think they won't eventually be terrible to you.

oKAY, however Orange man IS bad.

Millions of people voted for Trumpf because the democrats were LITERALLY worse. That's all there is to it.

in 2016, Trump started chants of "lock her up" referring to his opponent.

The media and most liberal folks derided him significantly for saying that.

In 2019+, many so called "liberals" were cheering "lock HIM up!!!" The so-claimed "extreme" sides of the parties are exactly the same.

Cognitive Dissonance: Here a left leaning journalist gets angered at trumpf for doing exactly* what Hillary had done. https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2018/05/trump-thanks-secure-phone-too-inconvenient-lock-him-up.html

And it's a problem when Trump does it, but "Clinton apologized her for email breach, and almost everybody agreed she had done something wrong."

Upon further reflecting, Hillary was accused of not only having multiple unsecured phones, and refusing a secure phone because it was 'inconvenient', but also running a govt business Email server out of her personal residence, and deleting hundreds or thousands of mails when required to release them for govt' records requests, it was also shutdown by her private server admin (who was NOT Secret Information Cleared!!!) when he 'Suspected' that it was being attacked, but they never allowed any govt' tech officials to investigate and fully secure it.

The Trump accusation looks like, 'they are angry because he uses an unsecured phone to TWEET with', I haven't seen an article showing him using a computer at his house to do GOVT work on, using personal phones on hostile diplomacy trips, or having that server at home being hacked, so the accusation in the article that this is 'JUST THE SAME" as what hillary did, is 90% wrong, or just under 'Pants on fire' if poitifact wasn't a partisan outfit.

Worse than a traitor, a conspiracy nut. To a traitor you can still listen to but someone crazy is worth only of derision.

What a total irony that after four years of russiagate, that turned up NO discernable proof of the four years of accusations of trump intentionally working with russia, that AFTER he is out of office, the idea of a political conspiracy becomes demonized in the press and by political pundits protecting their careers.

We need to get around this neo-stalinist media, or I am afraid that the next ten years will become beyond dark, indeed.

[–]Irascible-harpy 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

...neo-stalinist? There wasn't any evidence. There were four years of investigation and nothing of substance came of it. There's plenty of very real shit to raise hell about. Why go fishing?

gropey gramps Biden

Please, let's not have the tone of this sub to turn in this direction.

they'll just vote dump any close election in a red state with a major city that is blue, and you cannot ask any questions about 140,000 votes coming in at 3:40 am at 90 plus percent for one side.

Are you talking about Michigan? It came out very quickly after that happened that it was a simple error. It was corrected. The man who originally posted about it updated to say it was a typo.

It's not cool to spread this kind of thing unless you have evidence.

We knew the Dems would see their votes being counted largely absentee. These votes take longer to count, especially in states that can't start as they are received. This was discussed a month ahead of time as a predictable situation. The votes were also expected to take significantly longer to count due to COVID. If you want to tinfoil hat about something, may I recommend the repeated fuckery of the DNC?

Why go through the effort of stealing hundreds of house and senate elections when you can just steal the executive and pretend the office has legislative powers?

We knew it would happen. Everyone here felt like Trump was going to take away abortion so they voted for Biden. America going down the hole quickly.

For all the recent talk of "The Big Lie"....which side was actually telling them for the past 4 years..."Russian Collusion"...."Illegitimate President"....."The War on Women"..."..."Peaceful Protests"..all bullshit...nearly every "scandal" of the Trump admin was either made up or blown out of proportion and wildly exaggerated. What is true is that Biden just gave the green light to women's erasure. I hate to say it, but I hope some of these uber woke suburban moms wearing their athlesiure gear actually see the consequences of their vote when their precious Madisyn, Cayelynn, Breagan(actual names I've seen), etc get knocked the fuck over on a soccer field by the "girl" who lives three houses away (and is absolutely slaying it like a qween out there !!!!) or the moms get ogled by some perv in the changing room after spin class b/c SoulCycle is woke and doesn't want to lose business. Maybe they'll realize that Orange Man wasn't really all that bad and they fell for CNN's bullshit.

They already have buyer's remorse, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if he runs for a second term, they will still vote for him because they are loyal to Democrats no matter what.

[–]TheBeefBenson 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Why would they think that Trump wanted to take away abortion? I don't recall him having a strong opinion on the matter.

[–]MarkTwainiac 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I think the concern of those who took that position was less with Trump himself than with Pence, and with Trump's increasing reliance on the religious right as his support from many on the secular right waned.

[–]TheBeefBenson 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I have to admit that I didn't see evidence of this reliance or a decrease in support from the secular right. Furthermore I just can't imagine abortion being banned in the states.... it just seems like paranoia tbh. I think the women here who voted for Biden gave in to an imaginary threat rather than keeping focus on the real one. Well, you reap what you sow.

[–]MarkTwainiac 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You're probably right. Could be what I am calling "a decrease in support" from the secular right really is just the mixed feelings about the man as a person that have always been there amongst many even on the right, particularly amongst intellectual conservatives. They think he's a clown in many ways, and that many of his followers are yahoos, but they still did/do support him. I did think Trump seemed to reach out more, and rely on the religious right in the last year, what with him bringing that crazy evangelical Christian preacher to the White House for prayer sessions and his big stunt/photo op with the bible at St James church over the summer... But maybe I have misinterpreted that too.

However, I'm not sure the threat to abortion rights that some Biden voters feared was entirely imaginary. Given Trump's age and level of physical (un)fitness, it seems reasonable to think he very likely could have died during a second term and that Mike Pence would become POTUS as a result.

I don't foresee abortion being entirely outlawed in the US, but I do think that SCOTUS might put stricter limits on the time frame for when abortion can be done legally. Which means outlawing abortion as we currently know it in some states. There are currently 7 states where there's no time limit, one state that puts the limit at 25 weeks, and 5 that put the limit at 24 weeks. In the other states, the limit is either 20 weeks or viability.

One of the issues is that when Roe v Wade was decided, the earliest date a fetus could be considered viable was generally agreed to be 24 weeks. Now it's widely considered to be at 22 weeks. Moreover, in recent years there have been even younger premies who've survived, including one born at just 21 weeks.

https://www.today.com/health/born-21-weeks-she-may-be-most-premature-surviving-baby-t118610

One big difference between the old days and now is the invention and availability of a safe morning after pill, Plan B. The fact that it exists, has FDA approval, and is now available OTC (and online) without a prescription to anyone regardless of age makes me more sanguine about the prospect of further time limits on abortion in the US. To us older women Plan B seems like a wonder drug and the fact that it's available in every US state and territory with no prescription or restrictions is nothing short of miraculous.

changing the definition of sex in federal anti-discrimination regulations so that female people are no longer a discrete class with protected status under the law.

Joe Biden allegedly (claimed by Tara Reade, his victim) told her that "She was nothing to him" after fingering her on capitol hill. I am sickened, and NOT surprised that a scum like him would make THIS the priority of his administration, people are still facing evictions and growing inability to pay their mortgages and bills, thank goodness that the pretending men can play in womens sports now! Phew!!! I almost thought that the pandemic would keep getting worse but Joeseph F. Biden just saved the country from wondering!

Americans, are we reading ALL Biden's Executive Orders? I don't doubt there may be other nasty surprises coming. Hate speech, anyone? Will "TW are Men" become the equivalent of "yelling FIRE in a crowded theater"? Just saying if "sex was undefined in 1972" is taken to erase sex segregated sports, ...
