I made a few pro-vegan comments (in relation to Natalie Portman) a while back and got downvoted to all hell. It's what made me leave Ovarit. Now suddenly there's a vegan circle? Looolllll, not buying it.

I don't know how a vegan circle on ovarit is any harder to accept than a GC space on saidit. If it exists there it's because it was a popular request. All the circles being added now are at the request of the current members.

"Not buying it" is (possibly American) slang for "not believing it".

A community that ripped me apart with all kinds of unscientific bullshit like "humans can't digest plant vitamins", "the placenta blocks plant nutrients", "vegan pregnancies are child abuse" now suddenly has an entire circle devoted to veganism? Yeah, no. Pretty stupid plan to try to gather vegans together on a website that is so cult-like in their obsession over meat. Kind of ironic since ovarit started to get away from people denying the biology of sex, but then they all jumped on to deny a different aspect of biology.

There are plenty of better, less anti-intellectual vegan communities to join, so, yeah, no, not buying that this is suddenly an accepting place for vegans.

Vegans on that thread were literally calling non-vegans "abusive" and "monsters" so if their negative reception caused drama llamas to see themselves out, our feelings are not hurt.

Well, they are both of those things, so 🤷. No idea why any self-loving vegan would want to stay in a community of abusive, unscientific, cult-minded monsters.

There seemed to be a lot of conversations about it in threads that were not explicitly about veganism and we wanted to give dedicated space for vegan users to get together to talk about relevant topics, share recipes, etc.

It's a link aggregator like Reddit and Saidit, but it's created by the former mods of r/GC for radical feminists to build a bunch of different communities and connect with other women. We have been working hard to branch out and start new communities that aren't just about feminism but also fun stuff as well! Games, books, women in STEM, knitting and crafting!

Ovarit is like reddit but run by feminists. It exists as a counter to the censorship of feminists but the women there can discuss anything they feel like. Kinda like how reddit was created by libertarians and designed around libertarian principles, but hosted all types of subject matter, not only things related to libertarianism.
