I saw this yesterday and went to check my local library system to see if they carried it. In the county, there are four copies, and one was unavailable due to "being fixed/mended" because of course some of them are checking out public books to destroy them so they can't be read.

God, TRAs are such assholes. That hurts the libraries, you dicks.

Let's put our pitchforks down, shall we? Someone could have dropped it in the bathtub; it could have been eaten by a dog; we've all been a little careless turning a page and accidentally ripped it.

Those other posters didn't pick up pitchforks, Arthnold. They made reasonable assumptions and points.

BTW, I've seen people on Twitter advocating checking this book out of libraries and ripping out all/some pages so it's unreadable.

Chase Strangio of the ACLU tweeted that "making sure this book is taken out of circulation is the hill I'm prepared to die on."

I'd link to the tweet, but funny thing is, Chase has protected her twitter feed since posting that.

Um... ok. I didn't pick up a pitchfork. And while what you said is possible, it's not that common for books checked out to adults. Given the controversial nature of the book itself, it's not unreasonable to draw the conclusion that the damage was deliberate - especially with the history of burning HP books.

But sure, it could be accidental. They're still assholes.
