And how will they show this?

With homosexuality it is really easy to show - just two men or two women hug or kiss, or married and that is it.

And non-binariness exist only in person's own head. So to show this, they need to explicitely say about this and remind about this all the time at loud, it can not be shown, because it is not something real or supported with anything. That should be an annoying part.

It will have a female character with short hair and tattoos that is being oppressed by people calling her a woman! It will be like a reverse Outcast where instead of a androgynous character deciding she is female; it will be a female character deciding she is androgynous (but not really)

Well it's sci-fi, one genre where this could actually work. Trek has had aliens with weird genders before, like the species with 3 sexes ('Cogenitor') or the species where everyone is gender neutral and it's considered a disorder to feel specifically one gender ('The Outcast'). A Trill feeling transgender could make sense since they literally have the memories of other past lives, male and female, implanted into them.

I expect that each of these characters will get a monologue about what it means to be trans/nonbinary and then it won't get brought up that much.

Yeah, theoretically I wouldn't care that sci-fi has races where aliens could literally change sex or have three sexes or no sexes or w/e. But at the same time I expect the writers will take the lazy politically correct route and make some nonsensical point about ~identity~ and ~gender~ and not give it any more thought than that.

I hope it will be alien races, but so far it looks like it will be humans.

It says in the article that the trans character will be a Trill. The nonbinary one looks human in the preview shots though.

Trill makes sense at least.

Non-binary should be someone non-human looking. Like in She-Ra there are non-binary characters, but they are lizard humanoid race that can change their sex whenever they want.

Trek has already had nonbinary. Once again the current showrunners are exposed as fools who have never watched Star Trek Before CBS hired them.

The Outcast was pretty bad though. I could maybe seen it done right if it doesn't get brought up every 3 seconds that said character is non binary! For it to work, the writers would have to give serious thought to what "nonbinary" would actually mean and entail; and I just don't think they can do that. Jadzia though was really well pulled off.

It was pretty bad! Trek's message episodes have always been pretty terrible.

I think it's a good sign that they chose to make the trans character is a Trill since, as you point out, that is the perfect species for it. Hopefully they plan to explore further the impact on the hosts of incorporating multiple male and female life experiences into themselves.

Tired of all this normalising of this fetish

Meh...TNG tried this with a whole planet full of non binary people. It was considered one of their worst episodes. Also, pretty much all of the worst Star Trek episodes are the lets be woke ones! Plus, they already had an awesome transgender character.(well she wasn't really trans, but had a symbiote that had male and female hosts)

OP, Star Trek Discovery is a very far cry from the Trek's of old. Simliar to the NuWho, it has completely divided the fanbase, with many of us decideing to abandon ship in favor of the newer scifi, called "The Orville". Even though it was written by one of the guys behind 'Family Guy', it manages to pay its dues to Roddenbery's work before him, and it actually 'feels' more like star trek than STD does.

The characters are immature and unlikable, they act in ways that makes you think they couldnt be a part of starfleet (I dont think Roddenberry would have approved of these characters, as is), they have also mostly ruined spock with some crappy retcons to make him close to the previously mentioned unlikable character, and who in the hell thought of calling it Sexually Transmitted Discovery?

That alone tells you all you need about the intellect that went into this show, and its a far cry from all the Trek's that came before it.

Do not watch; Pick up DS9 Voyager or Orville instead, imo.

And wasnt odo nonbinary? 100% fuck the people who CBS has hired to ruin Star Trek, I dont think any of these idiots have ever been fans of it.
