I am guessing that most of the people who think it's okay for someone "under 18" is thinking of a 16 or 17-year-old who wants to go on cross-sex hormones*; they aren't thinking of a 9-11 year old child taking blockers.

*Not that I agree with giving cross-sex hormones to teenagers, but there are teens that age who take birth control pills, so I can see how some adults would follow that kind of logic.

Oh, almost certainly. I am sure that the average person has zero idea that children in the USA are being put on estrogen and testosterone as young as 11 or 12 and that hundreds of mastectomies have been performed on kids as young as 13.

The mainstream media is too chickenshit to run an expose to bring these facts to anyone's attention. If they did, I'm confident there would be a massive outcry.

The TLC reality show "I Am Jazz" has gone into great detail about all the medical procedures and complications Jazz has gone through. But a lot of the people who have watched that show think there are only a few kids like Jazz.

More than likely. And even though Jazz is reality show famous, she's not exactly a household name. I wonder if 25% of the population even knows who she is. It's not like she's a movie star. Unless they're researching trans issues, people may not even be aware that a kid named Jazz was transitioned, let alone that it happened at such a young age.

Before I peaked, I used to be ambivalent about child transition. I figured that if the children were suicidal and there was no other way to help them, then it might be okay. I assumed the doctors were doing their job and thoroughly examining the children, providing them real therapy, and making sure their parents weren't causing the issue. Then I learned that none of that is happening anymore, and there are no safeguards in place to protect vulnerable children.

My impression is that pretty much all the mainstream media in the USA is gung-ho FOR for these medical interventions being done on kids. Media outlets like NBC, ABC, CBS, The NYTimes, National Geographic, Netflix and tons more have all run/made oodles of material celebrating "trans children" and kids taking blockers, cross-sex hormones and getting surgeries such as double mastectomies and the kinds of genital surgeries Jazz Jennings had whilst still a minor.

What's more, women who are major players in the MSM have been gung-ho PRO child and adolescent transition for years. Such as Barbara Walters, Katie Couric, Oprah Winfrey, Ellen Degeneres and the women of The View.

Of course - the entertainment industry will reap great rewards by creating reality TV based on these train wreck lives.

But it's not just the entertainment industry. This is being celebrated by the so-called news industry too. Not that there's much difference between entertainment and news these days - entertainment and news organizations are all vying for clicks, consumers/customers and ad revenues.

If you go back and watch that Barbara Walters special from when Jazz was a young child, it would probably be decried as transphobic now because it's not uncritical acceptance.

This was 2007, long before the trans movement decided that showing any ambivalence about transitioning children was hate speech.

Ellen Degeneres

She's in favor of transitioning little kids? I can't heard her speak on the issue either way. I know she has interviewed trans adults, of course.

WTF I had no idea. Poor kids. How is this legal? :(

[–]worried19[S] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's true, unfortunately. I have no idea how it's legal, but it seems like doctors can do whatever they want to children. The worst offender in this area is Johanna Olson-Kennedy, who brags about how many children she's put forward for hormones and surgery.

There's also evidence she put an 8-year-old girl on testosterone. Not blockers, but testosterone.

I'm with you - when these poll comes out I always have to wonder at the 25% who thinks this shit is OK.

[–]blahblahgcer 13 insightful - 1 fun13 insightful - 0 fun14 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

God, I'm so surrounded by trans stuff that I was like "that's it? Thanks God"

[–]worried19[S] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Some areas of the country are that bad, I guess.

I wonder what the results would be if they exclusively polled "woke" areas.

[–]assignedcopatbirth 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Funny how if Mermaids polls their contacts and says "Stats show most people support trans kids", it'd be a big undebatable fact in the TRAs arsenal.

But when WOLF publishes these numbers, they'll be fiction because they only polled TERFs waaaah!

[–]Beth-BR 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The 25 % only said that because they're "not transphobic"

[–]peaked2020 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

The stats are still worrying... only 44% disagree that a trans woman should be able to give vaginal exams to women who only want female practitioners?

[–]worried19[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That does seem high. 12% are unsure. I wonder if they had specified a vaginal exam if the results would be different. Maybe some of the people didn't understand what "intimate medical examinations" meant.

Only 52% disagreed in the corresponding Idaho poll, which is not in line with that state's other responses.

[–]QueenBread 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Here's the thing. It's more and more obvious that the great majority of people aren't nutcases. They may be not very smart, but surely they know middle school level biology. Heck, even people who never went to school know what male and female are, even just by pure natural instinct.

So. Hear me out.

WHY is this being pushed? Why is a very loud minority controlling the narrative; why are big companies supporting it and actually trying to indoctrinate people?

I'd guess it's either:

(1) Big pharma has a LOT of money to gain by creating life-long medical patients, and since big pharma controls a lot of the mainstream media, it's pervasive

(2) This is a swing back from the way the lgb community has been treated over the last 50 years. Nobody wants to seem like they're on the wrong side of history, so they're bending over backwards for trans ideology while conflating the two. edit: And a lot of the trans laws were just lumped into previous laws. For example, in Canada the reason an 11 year old can get cross-sex hormones is because an 11 year old can get birth control...... the cross-sex hormones were lumped under the same umbrella as birth control without laws changing to recognize it as something totally different. it's the same for therapy - gay conversion therapy is illegal, and therefore "trans conversion therapy" is illegal (i.e. therapy before going on cross-sex hormones is illegal). Trans ideology took over before the laws could be ammended.

(3) (This is the most conspiracy theorist answer, but I love a good conspiracy, especially a controversial one) Population control - by sterilizing a whole generation of teenagers with mental health issues, this will help control the population by creating a whole generation of infertile adults in the next ~10-20 years. If you want to get darker, this is the mass sterilization of the autistic.

[–]worried19[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'd say it's number 2 with a heavy side of obliviousness. Making "conversion therapy" illegal sounds like the humane thing to do. People are probably picturing doctors giving gays and lesbians electroshock therapy like what happened in the olden days. I don't believe they understand what it means in terms of children who are brought to gender therapists. I have to assume that most still have the idea that actual therapy is part of treatment for all trans people, but most especially for children.

Population control

You know that, as much as it's a conspiracy theory, I've been indulging into this consideration too: the media is promoting "trans ideology" and pushing it especially on the youngest generations, despite it not being actually popular among most people....... to try to reduce the number of people.

Conspiracy theory? Yes - I almost wish the people in power were really so organized they could pull off such a grand scheme. However..... could this all be an instinctive reaction to overpopulation that's happening to our species without consciously realising it? Maybe. I don't think that's TOO weird an idea.

Or maybe, hear this out: it's our old instinct to appease some supernatural order that our species perceives

Good, i am so glad to hear that.
