I don't know about the laws about sex-change for sure, but Kim Petras is famously known as the youngest person (at that time) to undergo sex-change surgery at age 16. Petras was a subject of a lot of documentaries, esp. Stern TV did a lot of pieces on the boy, who covered his transition from boy to girl. TV channel VOX does a lot of specials about trans people as well, and they are usually full of children and young teenagers on hormone treatment. All dating long before 2018. (I've been on the cool-aid until I peaked, and I followed those programs with fascination.)

So, not to argue against your observation that the train is picking up speed in Germany recently ... but it was unfortunately running for quite a while now. :(

Can you link me to the critical FAZ article? I must have totally missed that, and I'd like to check it out.
