The article only gives examples of 2 comments, and neither were offensive. I wonder if the other comments Ms. Rep "liked" had any rude language, slurs, or threats of violence. If not, this is a clear case of censorship and silencing of free speech. This is wild.

But even if Rep had liked rude language or slurs, that doesn't warrant a $10 K fine.

I actually spent a lot of time working in Australia decades ago (I'm an American). I thought the US was despicable in regards to women's rights, but Australian men were openly sexist without even giving it a thought.

Sad to see that Australia, like the US, is now couching its misogyny in the terminology of the WOKE.

I agree, it's not bad enough for a $10k fine. Just "liking" a comment should not be punished, at all.

The only silver lining to this is that other Australians, who couldn't care less about women's rights, might see this insane fine as the threat to free speech that it is.

I am forwarding all this stuff, and also the video of the Australian politician, Claire Chandler (?) standing up for women's rights and free speech, to everyone I know in Australia.

WE CANNOT STAY SILENT, ladies.

It seems "misgendering" (i.e. calling a biologically male person male) is enough for a thought crime which in his case turns into a literal crime. Insane. I always pictured Aussies as like down to earth and sensible. I don't even know what's happening with this shit anymore.

But but no one's trying to erase biological sex.

Pretty soon TIMs will start civilian-arresting people for not complimenting them enough, or just looking at them. It's insane.

In my experience, which was as an American living in Australia decades ago, Australians and Americans share a bit of the "Don't tread on me" mentality. Especially outside of the large cities. So I'm really hoping the "ockers" (the rough & tumble Australians) will rise up against this bullshit attack on free speech, even if they still call women "sheilas."
