I hate the pedophilia-promoting piece of shit, but I agree about academic freedom and free speech. Up to and including vile opinions like his own of course.

I do not think Andrew Cantor promotes paedophilia. I think he separates paedophilia, the mental disorder, from offending such as child molestation or child pornography. He points to MRI evidence for an organic cause for paedophilia, but this in no way promotes paedophilia nor excuses offending. Cantor condemns offending and urges support for non-offending paedophiles to help them stay that way. Like it or not, paedophiles are members of the community, and we are better off with them remaining non-offending. There are also plenty of non-paedophiles who offend against children.

Here is a quote from Cantor's Twitter: "Pedophilia is NOT inherently wrong or harmful."

You misquoted him because you ended his sentence prematurely. Cantor wrote: "Pedophilia is NOT inherently wrong or harmful: Child molestation is." Full tweet. He is making the distinction between the mental disorder and offending.

You said he's not promoting pedophilia, and now you're admitting he is promoting pedophilia but that's fine because he makes a distinction between pedophilia and child molestation. Clearly he is promoting pedophilia in the tweet, thanks for linking to the proof.

Pedophilia is not a mental disorder.

Refusing to ban discussion of paedophilia by paedophiles is not the same as promoting paedophilia. We can make a close analogy with alcoholism, which devastates lives through health consequences, violence, and road deaths. Would you ban Alcoholics Anonymous? From Twitter? Same reasoning also applies to zoophilia, also likely a developmental psychiatric disorder.

Cantor is a sex researcher. He advocates openness about sexuality, and in the case of paraphilias that lead to abuse, he advocates supporting those who might abuse to prevent that abuse. He is fighting against abuse.

Pedophilia is not a mental disorder.

The American Psychiatric Association disagrees with you. See DSM-5 and ICD-11.
