He did not confess before getting busted. The mistake was sending a bomb threat.

if you make yourself easy, TRAs will mercilessly make your life as miserable as possible

Dude, doxxing is never the victim's fault.

I disagree the government will hunt you down. They aren't the one's caring about non violent freedom of speech movements.

Dude, you don't decide other people's threat models. COINTELPRO surveilled, harassed and disrupted radical feminists:

    — Some women found out they were being watched by filing a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request and receiving pages of heavily blacked-out material about their activities.

    — One woman found out the FBI was snooping on her when her parents reported a call from the FBI asking them if they knew that their daughter was planning to participate in a demonstration at the Pentagon.

    — One woman found out about FBI surveillance when her brother was interviewing for a job at the federal General Accounting Office and was questioned about the influence his sister had over his views.

    — One woman found that a student in her class had a CIA identification card when a book bag was left in her class and she went through it trying to find out who it belonged to.

    — One woman found out about FBI surveillance when agents questioned people at her workplace about her and spread misinformation about her activities.

This is really interesting information. Thank you.

We need to get rid of the idea that advising people to protect themselves better is a way of saying it's their "fault" if someone else hurts them. Of course it's not their fault if someone else hurts them, but we all deserve information about how to thwart the people who try to hurt us.

The commenter you were responding to wasn't saying, "It's your fault if you're doxxed." They were trying to convey a message more like, "We need to make it tough as hell to hurt us."

I loathe the conflation of victim blaming ("It was her fault because she wore a short skirt") and self-protection advice ("Try not to make it easy to hurt you; you can make it harder for them by doing X, Y, and Z").
