This is the type of navel-gazing theorizing that makes people mock and resent academia. Word salad nonsense completely detached from any material reality pretending to be radical and intellectual when it's just pretentious bullshit.

Bro, do you even tautologize?!?!

Word salad nonsense

This nonsense is more like a "food product" that has zero nutritional value & leaves a bad taste coz it's made up entirely of artificial ingredients that have been cooked up in a lab, have hard-to-pronounce multi-syllabic names no one except mad scientists can make sense of, & are likely to be harmful to health.

Its trigger phrases that you can attach to something to get people to buy your view/argument. Using something "The X Industrial Complex" is like putting the apple logo on a block of wood, people will buy it just because they see the logo.

Trans academia is wild. I spent a couple of hours reading abstracts some days ago, after someone had posted a link to the Journal of Lesbian Studies. One of the speakers at this event, Marquis Bey, (who is black and maybe trans?) seems to be doing their best at conflating the experience of being black with being trans in an article in Transgender Studies Quarterly (because even though they've colonized every other LGB journal, they still needed their own.)

From the abstract: "Manifesting in the modern world differently as race and gender fugitivity, black and trans, though pointed at by bodies that identify as black or trans, precede and provide the foundational condition for those fugitive identificatory demarcations. The author seeks to demonstrate the ways in which trans* is black and black is trans*."

So the idea that trans women and black women are both 'a different type of woman' doesn't seem to be a fringe belief, but a legitimate subject for an essay.

About this event, if they seriously can't answer this question. "Why have trans lives and identities become a politically potent rallying cry for people who seem not to care very much for trans people?" then I'm not sure a webinar will save them. They do know the answer of course, but it's appearently beneath them to consider the actual material reality of males in women's spaces, instead of 'gender fugitivity' and bodies-as-construct or whatever.

Like women, black men cannot simply change their appearance and identify out of their oppression.

Guess who can?

How the hell does someone get a job as a professor to rant and rave like a mentally ill person about deluded nonsense like this. Imagine actually paying to be educated by this person?

If you're going to make a silly conspiracy theory at least pick a group with actual power in society like, say, a group having money poured into it by an ex-military billionaire with high ties to American politics that is rapidly pushing through an unpopular legislative agenda in pretty much all western countries largely under the radar.

Just did a google image search for "women working in industry" & saw tons of great photos from today as well as the past, but couldn't figure out which factories were full of terven making TERFy industrial products. But bet these women sure would've scoffed at the notion of "lady dick":

This woman might have been a bit TERFy: https://chineseposters.net/posters/e16-17.php

I’m just so glad I graduated college in 1985.

I've rsvped. Lavery says the audience will be muted and invisible, so no use with screaming and signs. I'm interested in what they have to say, frankly. I have no intention of protesting. I'm really keeping my eyes and ears open about this issue.

[–]TurtleFuzz 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

Are you planning on reporting back to the GC community on what they say? I'd be interested to know if they have any valid points or if it's just whining

[–]fuckingsealions 25 insightful - 2 fun25 insightful - 1 fun26 insightful - 2 fun -  (11 children)

Yes I'm going to report live on spinster.

[–]BEB 17 insightful - 1 fun17 insightful - 0 fun18 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Would you post your recap here?

There used to be a British GC feminist who would attend meetings like this and post recaps on Twitter. They were hilarious - like that Monty Python skit about the man who wants to be a woman, but IRL.

[–]fuckingsealions 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Ok! I will see if I can "roll up" my posts or write a summary if there's enough substance.

I don't guarantee humor since I'll be working a full day before the talk, but I'll try. :)

You are a superstar, but please don't stress yourself.

Thank you for saying that, and I will not! :)

You rock, thank you so much!

Please get screenshots of anything incriminating, like threats of violence, doxing or the like.

[–]fuckingsealions 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

I will, though there probably won't be, since Lavery especially does a lot of performative couch fainting about TERF violence. Plus it is sponsored by a university and being recorded. It will probably be riddled with pretention, run-on sentences, and poor syntax if Lavery's bio on the page is anything to go by.

[–]BEB 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Should we send Stanford footage of all the times that trans demands activists have attacked women's events. And by attacked, I mean physically attacked?

I think that we should.

[–]fuckingsealions 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I think it can't hurt, but administration is completely terrorized by this asshole generation. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/16/us/evergreen-state-protests.html

[–]BEB 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I think a lot of people would grow a spine about this issue if they knew someone else had. For instance, look at how many people JK Rowling peaked. I'll bet a considerable amount of academia are secretly GC, they're just waiting for others to speak out.

[–]fuckingsealions 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's the rub. I'm all for this presentation because people do need to hear all the ideas. But it goes both ways.

Where does the 'industrial' come in? Do we have factories? Do the factories produce facticities?

[–]SameOldBS 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

We have factories, and they only have single sex toilets. Some of the factories actually make single sex toilets.

the outsize influence TERFs wield in the media

I'd love to learn all about it, that's news to me!

Jesus christo these "human bodies's" statements of purpose! Not to be a rigid STEMlord, but someone needs to take out the garbage that's built up in humanities. No wonder people like my dad talk about the "ivory towers in academia".

Ages ago I had an "art show" in a rotating "gallery" at our college campus rec center. Like, it was just some fun stuff I made with a particular theme, and I actually made a grand from selling. Super fun! Some nincompoop in the school paper decided to do, uh, "critical analysis" (I dunno what to call it) of my work. Never contacted me for an interview, obviously didn't even read my "about the artist" plaque, and yet still posted a pretty scathing review of the deeper meanings of my work. It read like this garbage here. How was I to know my pretty painted fabrics were an affront to post modern something or other. It's like these people don't realize there is a fully functioning world outside of their mind games.

I’m sure it will be no different than watching a Riley Dennis Youtube rant about lesbians not wanting dick.

Hekcler's Veto. Everyone sign up for this and just scream for the whole thing.

Also LOL at that moustache.

I don't know if you are serious, but please don't do this. TRAs basically did this to Derrick Jensen several years ago, and it was immature, rude, and just made the people doing it look ridiculous.

Don't stoop to their illiberal level. If there is a question/answer session, ask questions or bring up debate points, but don't make us look as intolerant and unable to rationally address their ideas as they look all the time.

[–]goobandit 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I imagine any question that edges on debate will get you instantly booted. It’s not analysis, it’s rabble-rousing.

[–]fuckingsealions 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I predict it will serve as rabble rousing and garnering funding

[–][deleted] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Oh Stanford, how you disappoint me.

[–]BEB 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Do you have a connection to Stanford?

Because I think that we should send the Dean of Stanford, or whoever is in power, footage from all the times women's events have been attacked by Trans Demands Activists.

Since Stanford is near San Francisco, maybe send pictures of that trans activist group near there - can't remember the name - that exhibited at the SF library barb-wire covered baseball bats that they wanted to attack TERFs with?

All day since seeing Grace Lavery's photo I've been pestered by the sense that I've seen that mustache before. Is this Grace? https://youtu.be/5nZnqtDdsws Or this: https://youtu.be/SgQOfat2ODc Or maybe Grace is one of these fine singers: https://youtu.be/PUoO4T_23pA

[–]Daraincork 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think that moustache has an independent existence. Sort of Zelig entity. Check out the Irish politician Willie O Dea. He is a cipher but the tache is almost hypnotic!

<we explore the outsize influence TERFs wield in the media>

News to me. Or do they mean how most people continue to call women "she" and men "he"?
