My sister went on bleeding like crazy for YEARS with endometriosis. Even AFTER she was diagnosed, her elderly male GYN refused to allow her to remain on BCP that helped her symptoms "because family history of heart disease/cancer". He also refused to give her a hysterectomy. She had her tubes tied at one point, so there was no issue regarding possible pregnancy. Kept telling her to get a second opinion, but she felt some weird sense of obligation to him as he delivered her kids.

Somehow, years later, she finally got a hysterectomy, although I'm not sure what the tipping point was as I haven't spoken to her in years (other issues not related). She was in her early/mid 50s by the time the hysterectomy was finally performed. The incessant bleeding had gone on for at least 10 years, I shit you not. She'd have a brief reprieve between heady bleeding episodes. He also kept nagging her about her weight. I was like "seriously?". I've had major breakthrough bleeding while on the BCP... I know excessive bleeding can happen in thin women as well as heavy ones. What also blew me over was when I realized it's usually thin women who get endometriosis in the first place, for some reason. On second thought-- maybe they're diagnosed more quickly, whereas heavier women are blown off? Who knows.

I wonder if her gyn dragged his feet assuming she'd go through menopause. If he really paid attention to our family history, he'd know our mother was almost 60 before she actually went through menopause.
