to not use any gendered language

So how does this work with two trans people, one who insists that no gendered language be used and the other who insists on being called their preferred gender pronouns? Which one gets to win and make the other person do what they want?

I watched a "woke fight" the other day about whether "it" should be considered an offensive pronoun or not, since some people use it for themselves. How people don't wake up to the ridiculousness of the whole thing is beyond me, but at least I found it entertaining to watch.

This is so difficult for me to wrap my head around. I don't think I've ever used "it" for an animal either. Just seems wrong.

I have met people referring their babies as "it" 🙄

Like, I've heard people referring ships as "she", why would they use "it" on their own baby?

In our language "it" is reserved to inherently non-observable or strange objects, or to monsters. Even non-living items are gendered, like "book" is "she", for example.

Ugh, I've encountered something like that online a few times over the years. Like someone would constantly refer to themselves as "it" and in the third person, saying stuff like "it doesn't deserve personhood", essentially pulling people into their humiliation kink by making them question why the person talked like that.

Exactly! Lol

Or how does it work in other countries where we have gendered language? Are they going to call us "discrimatory" for not using "gender-neutral" pronouns that don't exist on our language?

I don't understand why some Americans want to change OTHER countries' languages with words like "LatinX", which doesn't make any sense grammatically in Portuguese or Spanish. It sounds ridiculous.

I have American friends who use that term too...even with Latin heritage...disappointing.

In our language almost every word is gendered when speaking to someone, so just by suffixes you know what sex person have. So to put here special pronouns, they will need to change ending to every second world in whole language. Which will be very stupid and unrealistic. And our language is "pro-drop", so we are dropping all words that are not needed if it is understandable from context. For example just saying "Had read the book" will say who had read the book by suffixes. So this phrase with different suffix of word "read" will mean either he had read the book (читав, lone "л" is changing to "в" for better sounding in our language), or she (читала), or it (читало), or they (читали). And that with everything. All this pronouns thing makes no sense there at all, just because there are no pronounses at all.

That last sentence though. They really need to draw parallells with every other group in existence, don't they?

I know disabled people in real life. The accommodations that are so rarely made for them have absolutely nothing in common with pronouns and stuff like that. So insulting.

The backlash is already brewing in the US: According to the annual poll done by the former gay and lesbian rights organization, GLAAD, now all-transgender, all-the-time, LGBTQ acceptance is drastically falling among Millennials, especially women.

I'm betting it's the T and the Q causing problems, because not even the most Woke has the time to tiptoe around their endless, irritating, demands.

This was done exactly by design. Nonprofits exist only as long as the social problems that they’re - ostensibly - trying to fix. If LGBT gain several significant legal victories, and if social acceptance continues to reach new highs, then funding will start to decline.

GLAAD has a vested interest in constantly sounding the alarm on LGBT rights regardless of how much progress we’ve made.

They also forget that there're countries outside of the west where things are not so well for gays. Why not focus their power on this issue, on pressuring Saudi Arabia to humane laws?

Do you have a link for this? I'd love to read more about it. I tried looking on their site but it's hot garbage.

[–]BEB 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

The poll is "GLAAD Accelerating Acceptance Index". It's an annual poll conducted by Harris Poll. I don't know how to link but if you type that into a search engine you should find it.

LGBT acceptance in the US is dropping dramatically among the usually most-tolerant age group, and, again, I will take bets it's not because of LGB, but rather the non-stop drama of the T and the look-at-me-I'm-so-Queer of the Q.

And sorry, I originally got confused so I replied to you with a different article (see below) that someone else had asked for. GLAAD ACCELERATING ACCEPTANCE INDEX is what you're looking for.

Thanks so much!

I have the page pulled up, but I don't know how to link. Try typing the title into Duck Duck Go or a browser rather than the NYT site - I have it up from Duck Duck Go. The author's name is Deborah Sontag.

Let me know if that doesn't work. It's a mind blowing article, given the audacity of the trans activists.

It's amazing, isn't it, how badly people respond to be called transphobic bigots (ditto racists) all the time. Who knew it would produce a backlash? eyeroll

OF course its TQ causing problems. LGB only ever want to essentially be left alone.

[–]our_team_is_winning 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

LGBTQ acceptance is drastically falling among Millennials, especially women.

TQ have no business latching onto LGB. It just makes my blood boil. Acceptance of LGB is so far removed from TQ, esp. T. How dare the T drag down LGB? All these polls need to be done letter-by-letter. How do Millennial women feel about lesbians? What about gay men? My guess is almost nobody cares one way or the other. Live and let live. Then ask about men invading women's changing rooms, nattering on about periods that they will never have, or barging into women's sports. THAT is where all the red flags are. That infmaous "It's Ma'am" bully in the Gamestop store video -- that is where the problem is. Don't try dragging LGB acceptance back decades. Drop the Trans. GLAAD or any other once upon a time LGB organization is hurting LGB by jumping on the T bandwagon. "Gay and Lesbian Alliance" -- is the T is GLAAD silent? GLTAAD?

[–]meranii 18 insightful - 1 fun18 insightful - 0 fun19 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Advocates for LGB issues in general don't trample women's rights, don't deny basic biology, don't fantasize about invading women's spaces and don't fundamentally ask you to change how you speak and think.

How do these folks even cross a street or feed themselves? I mean, I've fought all my life with being treated shitty because I'm a woman, but at some point I have to step outside and live my life. I just can't imagine having the same approach that TRAs do. I feel like I wouldn't have friendly relationships with anyone, because no one, man or woman, behaves perfectly with how I'd like to be treated. While I try my best, I can't accommodate everyone either. It's tough out there when we live in a diverse social world.

[–]thea 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

There is definitely something incredibly performative and attention seeking about it. I went to an art talk by a transman who was queering "his" transness because she was now successfully passing as a man (the example was a repair guy assuming she was more knowledgeable about the house repairs because she passed as a man while her girlfriend was a normie woman). You could feel the bafflement of the comparatively woke audience. Isn't the point to be treated like the sex you're pretending to be? Yes, unless what you actually want is constant acknowledgement for being gender special. Meanwhile, my state's courts no longer issue marriage licenses to ANYONE because they don't want to have to acknowledge same sex LGB couples.

Maybe that woke audience is the issue, they do not realise that women are usually always assumed to know nothing about traditionally masculine jobs. I do not think they think at all to be honest.

Pronouns getting weirder.

They seem to get really triggered when I remind them that their fucking feelings are a yp, not an mp.
