I remember when I was in school for my first degree (which was in medicine, doctoral), when any male approached me for anything and saw my hospital badge, and asked if I was a student, they would ask me "to be a nurse?".

Now, please please please no offense against nurses, but I take offense that there is no way apparently I could have gained a doctoral degree, or more, because I am female--must be a nurse to be working in a hospital, yes?

Feck them. Feck them all to hell they can burn (males).

Wow, that’s so disconcerting. I’m hoping this was a long, long, long time ago but I suspect it wasn’t? I‘ve read a lot about sexism emanating from medicine. Personally my experience has been to assume women doctors more competent due to internal biases I suspect.

I’ve never entertained the thought of a male gynaecologist, fortunately female gynaecologist’s are aplenty here in Melbourne.

Come to think of it, my GP and dermatologist are women. In addition, my husband’s ophthalmologist and optometrist are women - wait there’s more! Our dentist is a woman. Holy crap, should men in medicine be worried? I digress...

NO, it was not! In fact, my friend who is a Pharmacist, in the very large, liberal city in the US she lives and works in , states it is a common occurrence for the males to refuse to speak to her and demand a male pharmacist, even if it is not for a "male" thing (like Viagra). Then again, I live in the Midwest of the US, which is full of sexist a$$holes, including some of the women (the women are rude AF to other women here).

Addition: I was asking one of my PA friends about this as well, and she said the same. Not just from coworkers, but from patients. The MALES are not treating her well there. I've had a few friends in medical comment about their mistreatment for being a woman.

That really sucks. I admire you and other women in medicine all the more for having to contend with this rubbish, especially in light of the coronavirus disaster.

I just want to go into hiding. Really.
