I was wondering this too. We give Depo Provera to pedophiles. And to men who have wildly inappropriate sexual behaviors (like constantly masturbating in front of others or on communal/ shared objects.) The article SAYS it was given for ODD but it also sounds like they got all the info from the boys lawyer. Who is biased to be frank and who knows if he has all the relevant information.

They've moved away from using Depo and now use Lupron (same drug as puberty blockers) for chemical castration.

They also have to give consent to be treated. Chemical castration isn't forced on prisoners. It's offered to them in exchange for a shorter sentence.

YES! that’s what I mean. I remembered hearing pedos were getting some hormone stuff and men with really extreme sexual violence or odd stuff. Glad I wasn’t mis-remembering it. I figure the boy was doing some really creepy sexual stuff if they just didn’t give typical stuff like tranqs

Yeah, there's probably more to the story - however, taking into consideration the fact that the kid was underage, this kind of "treatment" is still wildly inappropriate. Someone said consent is required for chemical castration but how can you gain proper consent from a teenager...? Whatever the case is, it looks like they are using teens as guinea pigs. I mean, pharmaceutical companies are anything but stupid and most likely understand that the best way to make this kind of testing seem legal and appropriate is to target people in weaker positions (and also, of course, making "transgender" a goddamn trend).
