It's probably for the best, they shouldn't represent the whole world of opinion. We could probably do with smaller, more decentralized communities with deeper, more meaningful connections.

Nah. Genderism is a white man's movement. They just want to be able to legally hire both men who wear fedoras and men who wear programmer socks and call themselves women. This is most definitely on purpose.

Genderism is a men's movement, yes - but it's not for the benefit of, or driven by, white men exclusively. It's a men's movement for men of all races and ethnicities, and men of a variety of skin colors and ethnic backgrounds are behind it. Non-white men might not be providing the major funds, and they might not have the same institutional clout and reach, that very rich and/or powerful white men like Martine Rothblatt, Jennifer Pritzker and Char Clymer do. But non-white men are very much part of this movement and are benefitting from it.

In the USA, many Black men - Jerome/Laverne Cox, Blossom Brown, Shea Diamond, the homophobic Ashlee Marie Preston who served as paid "campaign surrogate" for Elizabeth Warren, Cat Blaque, CeCe Telfer, Andraya Yearwood, Terry Miller - are all prominent in the trans movement and are seen as leaders.

Also, do a search of "BLM and black trans women" and you'll see that there is now a very big move afoot to make sure that anti-racism activism and all other leftist supposedly progressive social movements in the USA today "center Black trans women" and give "Black trans women" special high status as the natural leaders of such movements:

https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/black-trans-women-on-why-theyre-essential-to-both-the-pride-and-black-lives-matter-movement-193249896.html

Many other less prominent Black males in the USA (as well as males of other non-white ethnicities) have jumped on the trans bandwagon and are greatly benefitting from the genderist movement. As was illustrated by the fawning front-page NYTimes coverage given to the surgeries of Kricket Thunderpussy Nimmons in 2015 - and the way the press and Dem politicians including Hillary Clinton in 2016 rallied to decry the injustice done to an Asian TIM named Pearl Love who recorded a video of a (Black) woman on the subway subjecting Love to a litany of homophobic, transphobic and racially inflammatory verbal abuse. (I don't condone the abuse hurled at Love, but since women are verbally abused, harassed and molested every day on the subway I also don't think what happened to Love deserved the huge news coverage it got or it being portrayed as akin to a physical attack.)

Also, it's telling that so far most - perhaps all? - of the male inmates in US correctional facilities who've used claims of trans identity to successfully sue for transfer to female prisons have been Black males. This could be simply because Black males are over-represented in prisons in the US, though it's not clear if they are over-represented among male prisoners who claim to be the opposite sex (my hunch is they're not). Then again, it could also be because Black men like inmates Strawberry Hampton and Janiah Monroe - and the lawyers and advocacy groups such as the ACLU who are backing these men pro bono and big time - have figured out that in the current political climate, claims of being oppressed are likely to be heard most sympathetically in court and in the press if oppression can be claimed across two axes - race and transgender status.

The fact is, in today's political climate any man - whether he's rich and powerful like Pritzker or has a violent criminal history like Janiah Moore instantly become a member of "the most vulnerable and most oppressed group among us" by declaring he's trans. And the trans ID "magic trick" works for men across the board, regardless of race. (BTW, Illinois inmate Janiah Moore, who murdered one of his male prison cellmates with his bare hands, is said to have raped a woman in the female prison he was transferred to the very first day he was released into the general population of women.)

In the UK as well, many men of non-white ethnicity are prominent in the genderist movement too, ranging from Munroe Bergdorf to Alok Vain-Menon [sic] to the "trans" drag queen Glamarou. And UK activists have taken up the charge that "Black transwomen" must be centered in the British versions of BLM too: https://www.bbc.com/news/newsbeat-53192703

Silicon Valley culture is unique, even in the US -- its values most closely align with the far-left academic elite (and now MSM). It's non-representative of most citizen's views and values here, definitely non-representative of POC (whom it claims to champion), the working class, political moderates, etc . . . There are "woke" geographical enclaves, especially on the west coast, but SV and Big Tech are very curated, artificial, and -- well, weird. They cast an outsized shadow. The danger is that they also have an outsized influence.

[–]endthewoo 19 insightful - 1 fun19 insightful - 0 fun20 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

They cast an outsized shadow. The danger is that they also have an outsized influence.

This for sure, but why would you describe them as "far-left" ? They are obviously power-hungry authoritarians, sociopathic, narcissitic, but whether they profess to be republican or democrat, they are capitalists (ie nowhere near the left) and many would be closer to right-wing libertarian anyway.

[–]jet199 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Capitalists can be left wing if they believe capitalism helps the majority of people.

Marxism isn't the only branch of left wing thinking you know.

The whole enlightenment and creation of the capitalist class was based on individual liberty. Of course it didn't work that way and by Marx's time people were starving in the streets but the intention of economic liberalism was left wing. They were they original lefties who thought removing all social structures would bring about paradise on earth.

"Far left" as in the ultra-progressive academic/social sciences zeitgeist, and what some are calling identitarianism -- the culture of "true believers" in Silicon Valley. The capitalist corporate tech behemoths hosting (employing) the true believers are another story, in it for their own purposes. For the moment, though, they're fronting the progressive narrative.

[–]JoeDzhugashvili 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Far left isn’t when you’re a hardcore woke hippie twitter weirdo

Far left is when you’re an actual, literal communist

None of these people are communists

They’re just liberals

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

If you haven't seen a champagne communist TRA gender studies postgrad blogger yet, there's still time.

[–]JoeDzhugashvili 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Eh, those people aren’t working class and aren’t interested in organizing workers, in fact they usually hate the working class. They’re just edgy liberals to me.

[–]endthewoo 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Then you're into "everyone I don't like is a leftist" territory. It doesn't make sense. Words need to have meaning - a resonable and consistent definition, and the likes of Peter Theil, Musk, Zuckerberg and the rest are no way "far-left"

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Not me -- the academic and journalistic climate providing the mental-emotional juice for all of this. "The Evergreening" doesn't make sense. It's not internally or externally consistent. That's the point.

[–]NannyOggsRevenge 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree. There’s a level of disconnect that’s alarming. It’s got a certain cult like religiosity. It’s all about virtue signaling obtaining cooperate power and watching their stock soar while “crying” about the poor and adding more wood the the fire burning our planet down. Champagne liberals to the end.

[–]kwallio 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Silicon valley is anything but "left". They are libertarians, but pay lip service to various things in order to not inflame their user base. I know quite a few poc and women who work or worked in various tech companies and the tech bro culture is pretty rife.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's really disturbing. So there's a three-way tangle of fictions going -- tech bros, academic progressives, capitalist behemoths.

What does MSM mean, I know only a network, but I guess it’s an abbreviation.

Sorry, "mainstream media" -- the Big Five here are The Washington Post, The New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, NPR

I think it's important to remember that approximately 70% of tech workers in Silicon Valley are foreign born. They have no clout and no voice. If they don't toe the line, their jobs and even their lives in the U.S. are in more jeopardy than Americans who speak out.

Welcome to the cyberpunk, where big corporations are controlling every step of your online life and can erase anyone with snap of the fingers. It is not cyberpunk that sci-fi writers were imagioning.

I am pretty stunned by the recent actions of reddit Google and Twitter, what surprises me is the arrogance, it seems they really do think they can tell the rest of the world what they can think and do and say.

I mean, this is men in a nutshell - See religion. They just make up loads of shit and be like "you better believe this or we'll kill you" - Then they exported their beliefs around the world and forced many millions to convert to them or be put to death.

[–]endthewoo 12 insightful - 1 fun12 insightful - 0 fun13 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

In what way will it destroy Silicon Valley ? The tech bro and tech corps are male-centred, full of perverts, heavily into transhumanist, fantasy worlds already - and they are still doing alright out of it. The bigger threat to SV is either from a religious right backlash within the US or from China and Russia - and bearing in mind very few of us (ordinary pple) can afford or have the means to go off grid - the most likely scenario for the rest of us will be "choose your master/dictatorship" as the few sane voices become even more powerless.

[–][deleted] 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

I wish the media wouldn’t march in lockstep with Silicon Valley corporate.

[–]carmellakimara 14 insightful - 2 fun14 insightful - 1 fun15 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Why wouldn't they? All mass media is corporate. CNN and MSNBC I think would be considered center right in most of Europe. We have zero leftwing mainstream media. Even freaking NPR has sold out.

I am OOTL, what did Google and Twitter do?

[–]materialrealityplz 41 insightful - 3 fun41 insightful - 2 fun42 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Google messes with it's search results to fit wokeism. google 'murdered women' or 'women murdered in 2020' to see the kind of stuff that fit the woke narrative. Or google 'white couple' and you get a mixed bag of results, hardly any white couples. But google 'black couple' and all you get is black people. (same with straight vs gay couple) etc. List goes on and on.

Twitter bans all sorts of people (particularly women but also men, like Graham Linehan finally got the ban hammer recently) for being gender critical. Zuby, a black rap artist, got suspended for saying 'dude' to someone. Meghan Murphy got banned for saying 'him' about Jonathon Yaniv, even though she was referring to a profile of his where he presented himself as a male. A lot of women just get deboosted - I don't know what being deboosted all consists of, but you don't show up in the top comments, you have to click the show more comments or whatever to see these people's comments (instead of them showing up in the infinite scroll). I've been deboosted, because I am gender critical.

This is absolutely outrageous, what the hell makes them think they have the right to do that? It's none of their business!

[–][deleted] 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Silencing people changes no ones mind, if anything, it makes people resentful of being silenced. The best thing that will come out of this is that these big tech companies lose their power. People will just go to different platforms and create different platforms.

[–]msteacherlady 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

These guys are really something else. Bunch of fucking weirdos who can pay a stylist to make them look shiny and sometimes a trainer that makes them do silly things with rubber bands and bosu balls in the park. Some of them make no effort at all. They're all fucking rude and creepy. I've had more contact with these guys than I'd like to, and I'll just leave it at that so I don't reveal too much about myself.

[–]Elvie-Heterodoxy 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

We have to stop allowing private companies like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, such power over public discourse. Especially now, when we have a global pandemic going on and these social media sites could (and should) be seen as public commons.

I wish the MSM would pick this up because I don't think people know and understand this is happening and why it's so important.

Never underestimate people not knowing what is going on outside of their bubble.

[–]JoeDzhugashvili 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Eh, Silicon Valley is evil as shit for many, many reasons

It ought to be destroyed
