Remember that menacing tweet sent to Stephen King? It went like this: "Replying to @StephenKing You should address the TERF tweet. By telling us constant readers if you believe trans women are women." He folded like a cheap suit. The thing is, you don't know if he was lying. The trans community will end up with a bunch of backslappers, and they'll never know who to trust.

It is easier to spew the bullshit and keep your friends and business relationships than to stand up and say what you know to be true. Being famous today and active on social media puts these people in a precarious position. If they interact with fans, someone WILL try to get them to say something controversial and whip up the online mob to cancel them.

I would have gone for something passive aggressive like: "sure, you are women, now leave me alone". That way I would be able to look myself in the mirror.

Exactly. I've been saying this for weeks to my partner. At the ballot box, we still are anonymous. I think that accounts for some of the surprise election results in the US. Mind you, I am a politically homeless former democrat.
