I've had this fun experience. I had a mirena iud put in and it made me really ill immediately, but I was told there was an adjustment period. Three years later I couldn't take it anymore and went to my clinic to have it removed and saw a doctor who was not my usual one. He was very very skeptical of me and my complaint that so much of my body had changed since having it put in. He pulled it and I felt better in about two days, though it took me much longer than that to recover completely. I had to see him for a follow up a week later and I happily said I was feeling much better, and he said, well, how can you know that's even related? I thought I was going to stroke out right there.

A bit later I had an ultrasound to check on things and it had implanted itself and left a huge gouge in my uterus which was noticeable and mentioned on the biopsy/exam of my uterus after my hysto (years after the mirena). Long story longer it's likely I was allergic to it.

I don't think if that doctor often but when I do my murderin hand gets twitchy.

And they wonder why people experiment on themselves with Doctor Google.

Female doctors ALL THE WAY. You are much more likely to be listened to.

I'm prone to kidney infections and one summer, I developed a SEVERE kidney infection (and for whatever reason, it didn't show up in the urine test). My usual doctor was away, so I saw this guy and told him I had a history of kidney infections. Super smart doctor guy acted skeptical the whole time ("it didn't show up on the urine test!") He then suggested that I must have pulled a muscle or something and that's why I was hurting (I also told him I could barely pee, but whatever). He told me to go home and rest.

At about 2am, I started uncontrollably vomiting. I cranked the AC in my car as cold as it would go and drove myself to the hospital while dry heaving.

Turns out I had a severe kidney infection... just like I had suggested. Almost like I know my own body or something...

I went through about 6 doctors before a female one helped me.
