Well, I used to mod r/periods on reddit before I deleted my account a few days ago, so I remade it here last week.

That's great! I wonder if we could make a big list of them as the new "sister subs" - just wanted to put feelers out before I created anything myself.

I just got told by the new mods that r/gendercynical posted how the rules were TERFy because I put not to describe women by body parts. I just made a post about it

Yes. They're going to target the periods sub and likely tag and stalk anyone who posts on there, too.

Me too. I'm planning on starting a PCOS one over here as soon as my account is old enough.

That's great! I have PCOS and haven't used the subreddit in years because I found it quite alienating. If you need an extra pair of hands, let me know.

I'll definitely let you know. Should be in two weeks once I'm "old enough".

I've had a PCOS diagnosis since the mid 1980s and had just discovered r/PCOS. I didn't even know there WERE hormones that could help me out. Now, I'm afraid to post there to ask any questions at all.

Frankly, I'm just pissed that I have to pay out of pocket for anything that would help me have less of a beard or stop going bald or whatever myself because it's "cosmetic" and I get shit for being vain for. You know. Not wanting to have a beard and chest hair and a bald ass head, all of which have been deeply distressing to me since I was 14 or 15 and it started happening. (Not to mention the other issues like ovarian cysts, infertility, period issues...)

Meanwhile tims can access "gender affirming" treatments like hormones and laser hair removal and other medications and get it at least partially covered by my insurance because of their "mental health" etc.

How come it's vanity and cosmetic for me, even though it does affect my mental health, but for a man it's medically necessary?

Definitely.

Also I was thinking during the Woman's Place conference I went to that we now have enough research coming out that we could have spaces devoted to women's medicine and other research just on women and have then full up pretty much all the time.

Having something pure fact and science based like that would be nice and refreshing rather than trying to argue with opinions and ideology all the time.

I actually really like the sound of that. There's plenty of space here to discuss sociological studies here but it would be great to have a place to discuss pure female medicine. I really like the Twitter accounts that keep track of studies that are "only in men" or "only in rats" - I wonder if that's another, separate idea too.

I'd join and participate in a space for women's health, definitely.

I support it, but you'd have to have some very dedicated moderators. Saidit has different rules than reddit which you'll want to review. You will also have a challenge of getting enough users. You are welcome to make posts about PCOS and other medical issues here as well.

All important considerations - after I made this post, I had a bit of a browse on Facebook to see if there were any female-only PCOS groups. To my dismay, lots of them are for "ovary owners," "ovary havers" and the like. I just think it would be important to have a space - which at this point is TBD - to be able to talk about the symptoms and coping strategies that work. I do think a lot of the things spoken about in these spaces might get muddled up in radical feminist discourse - it's easy to tell someone to "rock the facial hair" when it's not you not getting jobs or dates or whatever because of it (a personal experience of mine, which is not representative of everyone of course). I wish I had website building skills, that would really come in handy!

This recent development is beyond revolting-- even more so in that men's equivalent groups are not being browbeaten into welcoming transmen with open arms.
