I don't know the rules here whether we can link to tweets or not. About an hour ago she posted a string of tweets in response to some moron twisting her words about her not wanting people with mental health to get medications.

Honestly, now that she's out, she can speak freely. Unless Twitter bans her, the loons of the Twitter mob really can't do anything to her anymore. They can keep attacking her but it's to no avail.

If Twitter bans her, they'll make her a martyr and bring even more attention to the insanity train.

She isn't just fighting back, from what I've seen she's doing so very eloquently. The contrast with people on the other side, who like you say are constantly attacking her, is clear for all to see. She doesn't sink to the level of spewing hatred and personal attacks. Her tweets are rational, well thought out and make it clear she speaks out because she cares, not because she hates. The exact opposite of what they try to paint her as.

I think her messages are largely motivated by peaking the bystanders or at least planting the seed of doubt in their minds. She knows that the indoctrinated TRAs are a hopeless cause and that most people, particularly liberals are only going along with this charade because they have some misconception about what it's really about and think it's some sort of organic civil rights movement.

Absolutely.

I think most people do actually know it's messed up. If you get someone one-on-one to talk about it, almost all of them (even in liberal circles) will admit that they don't believe a guy who loves his beard and says he's got no dysphoria is a woman. Most people do have sympathy for trans people who physically transition because that's the life they want and then they leave everyone else alone. I also have sympathy for that predicament.

I used to think, "Well yeah, it makes sense that someone who looks just like a woman would want to be in the women's restroom. It would be bizarre for them to be in the men's restroom and they wouldn't even be bothering anyone in the women's restroom if they really look like a woman. Who would even know the difference?"

But then I realized what's actually going on.

And I also realized that these "I want to be in women's spaces" types really do need it to be WOMEN'S spaces. They would not at all be content even if every location had a third, sex-neutral restroom. I'd be perfectly fine with it if a location had a women's restroom, a men's restroom, and then a sex-neutral restroom. Hell, I'd use the sex-neutral bathroom when the line for the women's restroom was too long (which it often is). But no. They want the WOMEN'S restroom. I also don't see any issue with single-occupant restrooms being sex-neutral since there's only one person in them at a time. But that would not suffice for them either.

only tangentially related but i had to use a mens room once (single user) and the urinal was placed just so that if i had leaned forwards on the toilet i could have drank from it like a fountain. it was clean (thank GOD) but it was too stupid to ignore. whose design choice was that??? why do men have so few stalls in the multi-user bathrooms??? public buildings should have sensible bathrooms. i was at a restaurant a different time where the bathroom was literally a converted closet that was hardly big enough for the door to avoid hitting the fixtures. asinine!

having a third sex-neutral restroom was the reasonable alternative many people speak about but to them and their ideology it's not ideal because, really, that would just reinforce the idea that they are not really women (wich they aren't, they're trans women). that's why they forcefully want to be included in the women restrooms, because TWAW right??? So why are the unreasonable period-havers not immediately accepting this? How terf of them. Why is it always women who have to conform and make spaces for men exigences? Also, single occupant restrooms is not what they want. They want the womens restrooms. And to win that theyll appropriate anything female related and call names and make violent threats and also victimize themselves.

(VERY off topic - I was in a mental rush to create an account when I found this site and just made up this name. It does have a meaning but anyway. My other choice was "vuorinauris." Little background: my partner is a South American guy who loves to try to speak in Finnish... And we had spoken about animals and plants and all that before. Like you know, hirvi, porkkana, kauris, peruna, so on. Then we saw some video of deers and he gleefully tells me he knows the name. And just says "LOOK, it's a nauris." (And I thought I heard him wrong. Kauris and nauris are too close phonetically.) He repeated "nauris" and I almost died of laughter because well. I have a dorky sense of humour and thinking of some noble NAURIS e.g. standing in Järnefelt's "Landscape from Koli" makes me have a fit of laughter that usually ends up in me feeling like I cannot breathe. Ah! Had to share this silly story, totally off topic. May the raisins, rats and turnips finally unite!)

Oh and, on a completely serious note - I have been wondering about spaces/places like that as well. I don't live there anymore but an online community could be a good start. Happen to know any? Feel free to PM if you want to talk in more detail. I have found the Finnish feminist groups in FB especially cult-like and would not like to experience that shit again. Maybe there's another way, I just don't know what.

I actually peaked when I saw an article about Rowling, and a TIM had commented something along the lines of how the language should be changed so that women would be called menstruated/breeders (all in Finnish). I was actually kind of a TRA before but the thought of being called a “synnyttäjä” in a general conversation just made my blood boil.

Is it just me or are TRAs mostly incredibly privileged people? Imagine telling someone in the Middle East that they should just identify as a man in order to stop being sexually harassed.

Yes, that's true. If a person is getting a ton of attention and engaging with the other side to the point that it enrages the other side - they may end up with a ban.

I've been on GC Twitter for years. I only follow other GC accounts and generally retweet posts that are meaningful and impactful to me. I haven't gotten into too many spats with strangers, so I've haven't been banned yet. It's a good way for me to stay on top of the latest GC news and to see the massive community of other women (and men) who support each other on this issue. I need it for my mental health haha! Maybe that's why I baby my account so much and have kept myself safe from banning - I couldn't bear to have it shut down

They won't engage - some TIM bloke who linked to the never-ending "18 mUrDerS" on some older previous rowling tweet (i think the Maya case) blocked me when I pointed out to him the misogyny of blaming women for murders that men have done. I didn't even question the validity of those murders (which are questionable - as most weren't hate fuelled). The idiocy in those men and the handmaids who believe for a second that men murder TIMs because they listened to rowling or radfems is astounding - men never listened to radfems, so GC thought never "caused" a murder, not even once.

This is how I know JK is a far better person than I am. What I would do is step back, write a new HP trilogy of when they're all older and running the school, being adult wizards, etc. When it becomes a massive bestseller and a studio wants to turn it into a movie series, I'd say "Fine, but you're only getting the rights to it on one condition : you will not cast any of those three ungrateful little shits", and I would say it publicly. They hit her on twitter, I'd hit them where it hurts, the wallet.

True, but these people seem to always want more. RDJ wasn't doing Iron Man for free even though after a few films he didn't need the money. Tom Cruise doesn't need the money but he still gets paid. Same goes for plenty of them. Excluding them from a new trilogy may not break or even really hurt them financially, but it would be a stinging rebuke and missing out on the biggest payday any of them would ever see again.

Daniel Radcliffe's career after HP was him doing weird little movies because he could. After a certain point I think it's just attention seeking and personal boredom that drives these people. Note RDJ could keep making more money on the Iron Man shit but he wanted the character ended and was relieved at the end of his contract. What does he do after? Some dumb talking animal movie that sucked and bombed. Maybe that's more money seeking behavior on his part but he didn't need to put in anywhere near the same amount of effort for that shlock compared to what his Disney contract was demanding.

If these people can get their feel good kicks from dogpiling on social media I think they will be perfectly happy with not receiving more roles in the old universe. If anything they can wear that as a badge of honor to be bandied out for their simping fans. Did a skim of the replies and there was a female "doctor" saying something along the lines that Rowling was wrong straightout to say that it could be dangerous and her science was wrong. People were asking the doctor if she was saying it if was proven to be safe, which she didn't have a reply to. I don't believe doctors should be practicing wokeness as a standard of care. Is it standard medical procedure to give addicts opiates they want because they say it helps them, or should we assess the whole thing from an objective standpoint on probability of harm? There's also some trans people who are replying that if they hadn't gotten the treatment their mental health would have suffered, but anecdotes aren't science and alternate forms of treatment can't be ruled out without being tested. Even questioning this is now considered transphobia.

Nothing will help peak people more than these self-appointed experts on gender, science, womanhood, righteousness, and morality policing people what they can and can't do lest they trigger the delicate feelings of TiMs. At least anti-vaxxers stay and flat earthers stay in their own lane and don't try to take over

I'm starting to worry about her safety. Not kidding. She's been so calm, eloquent and compelling that she is singlehandedly waking up millions of people to the truth and I worry that some of the more deranged (or well-funded) TRAs will try to shut her up for real.

As bad as some of the tweets to her are, I'm sure she, her publishers and associates are receiving truly frightening threats. They nailed a dead rat to the Vancouver rape crisis center, god knows what they will send or do to her.

If they anything of the sort, they'll turn her into a martyr. That's, I think, the only reason why they're holding back. She's too much of a public figure, too well-known, too popular to be killed in a car accident or harassed w/o anyone noticing or connecting the dots. If anything happens to her, there will be riots in the streets.

But I agree, I'm worried about her. And her family. Nothing more terrifying for a parent than their children being potential targets because of their parents.

Man I admired her from the first word of HP. She's gotten me through so much (her books have) and she's now going to get so many women through all this vitriol. I don't believe in God but I'm seriously praying she's able to hold on while we all join her.

I know "Moments" are basically Sort By Controversial for twitter (also it sounds like a mom's euphemism for a child's tantrum: "Taylor had A Moment when we went to get his hair cut") .... but to make a Moment out of a completely inside baseball controversy, which was that Rowling 'Liked' a certain other tweet.....? I love how any time she posts about this stuff the people I follow on twitter who are all ~offended draw attention to it by screencapping or retweeting. All they're doing is giving her more attention, which causes more people to peak. If they were smart they would just ignore her. I don't think they can stand that she explains herself so well.

they really can't stand that, and thus several posts attacking her go viral even reaching numbers such as 80-90K likes and rts. posts that in no way try to rationally make their point. they're not smart, and the more vocal ones are the so called 'allies'. they spew such vitriol and the majority of people just go along with it as if it wasn't a big deal. they can say "I wish to put JK's head on a pike" or "I wish she would just shut up or she deserves to be raped to learn" and these idiots are like "yeah!!" but God forbids if a "terf" even said that about a transperson, which I never ever saw anyone doing (doesn't mean it doesn't happen but they're certainly not as vocal as the TRAs and trans people)

From what I can tell they think she chose "Robert Galbraith" as a pen name to match "Robert Galbraith Heath", a psychiatrist who tried gay conversion therapy in the 1950s. Nevermind that the psychiatrist went by "Robert G. Heath", this is enough evidence for them to say she supports gay conversion therapy.

Oh, and she wrote a trans person as a villain in one of these stories under the Galbraith moniker. I am not making this up.

She announced that Dumbledore was gay in 2007. One year before gay marriage was legalized in the US. The "woke crowd" did not exist in 2007.

She didn't say Hermione was black. She simply approved of Hermione's black actress in Cursed Child. She said she never specified that Hermione was white (Caucasian). Some people tried to "gotcha!" her, saying there's a line in the books where it says "Hermione's white face" -- which at best, implies that Hermione is definitely light-skinned. Her race, however, is never stated outright in the books.

Her 'pandering on Twitter' was simply her answering inane questions from fans about random details in the books. I recall JKR receiving flack for saying Anthony Goldstein was Jewish. She did not tweet that out of nowhere: it was a reply to a user who asked her if there were any jewish students at Hogwarts. What was she supposed to say? No?

I'd just like to point out that, except for Dumbledore, no character in the Harry Potter franchise was said to be gay by JK Rowling. Not a single one. It's the fandom that is obsessed with writing fan fiction where every character is suddenly gay/lesbian/bi/pansexual/trans/genderfluid. (There is a blog on Tumblr dedicated to the theory that Snape is actually a transwoman, check it out if you want to laugh.) Speaking of Anthony Goldstein, he's part of a list of characters that Rowling wrote back in the nineties before she started writing The Philosopher Stone and his surname is Jewish. So she's been knowing that Anthony Goldstein was Jewish for two decades before speaking about it on Twitter. (Just because someone asked her if there was some Jewish wizard at Hogwarts, not because she was trying to make a statement)

My take on it is that it doesn't really matter what race was specified in the book, translating characters to a stage/screen is never going to have them looking the way we imagine them when we read about them anyway. It's a bit strange to switch now given that the movies had already come out, with a white actress as Hermione, but... her race is a negligible issue, in the context of this story.(in some stories the character's race is important) So if a black actress was the best one for an entirely different adaptation, then sure. It's somewhat unusual, but I don't see the problem.

I'm a more quiet and private person so I don't know what it's like to be the richest and most famous author of her era. From my perspective I just wouldn't engage with these questions in the first place. If she felt like she had to respond I guess it's understandable that she would lean into her fan's delusions but I think a written work should speak for itself without needing further input from the author to make it "more correct" for trendy sensibilities.

Diversity only brings a benefit because it means there is a diversity of POV and opinion. If everyone thinks the same but just looks different diversity brings no benefits. However the latter kind makes people a lot happier, diversity is difficult and stressful and people will often complain about working in that kind of environment but the end product is just so much better.

I genuinely cannot understand why she is facing so much backlash. Comparatively speaking, her tweets are extremely reasonable, tame, and fair. She even states her support for trans people several times. She just reasonably believes that a lot more research needs to be done and that there MUST be limits to protect people and sex-based rights. I was puzzling over the "I've ignored porn tweeted at children" thing and how people were calling that out, how strange it was, until I realized: The only reason porn is being tweeted at these kids who are making pictures for her story is BECAUSE these people want to shut her up so badly. They're willing to make it look like it's HER fault that some really creepy adults (I'd guess largely men) are abusing her and CHILDREN because she won't kowtow to their whims. Classic abusive mentality: "It's her fault he hits her because she's just so difficult, what else is he supposed to do?" Nope. There is always the choice to... not tweet porn at children? It's not her fault for having views that don't align perfectly with someone's ideology that are clearly still based in intelligence, critical thinking, and respect for others. I think anyone with half a brain can see that she's right. To brush everything off as 100% non-concerning and safe is completely foolish. Of course there is going to be long term effects, and unforeseen consequences. To silence everyone who raises a concern about safety is mad, in my opinion. No medical treatment is completely without risk of harm, and the people who undergo the treatment have a right to know about the risks they're subjecting themselves to. But oh no, can't talk about that, because apparently it's transphobic. What a mad world.
