Transgender ideology is leaving a “corrosive impact" on society, according to a new study calling for the scrapping of gender recognition reforms.

The report by the Civitas think tank accuses public institutions of being captivated by an "ideology of transgenderism" that is unable to defend the sex-based rights of women.

The research by Dr Joanna Williams, former director of the Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Kent, calls on the Government to announce a moratorium on all reform of the Gender Recognition Act for at least the duration of parliament.

It also calls for a ban on the prescribing of puberty blockers and cross sex hormones to anyone under the age of 18 and for children “socially transitioning” at school without the permission of their parents to be prohibited.

It comes after Father Ted co-creator Graham Linehan was permanently suspended from Twitter on Saturday after tweeting “men aren’t women tho” in response to the Women’s Institute, who had wished transgender members a happy Pride.

Linehan has blamed trans ideology and activism for being misogynistic and erasing women’s rights as well as opposing biological females giving up safe spaces to share with female-identifying persons. Harry Potter author JK Rowling has also faced sustained criticism for expressing concerns about transgenderism "erasing the concept of sex".

In ‘The Corrosive Impact of Transgender Ideology’, Dr Williams argues that the state has been too willing to “coalesce behind the demands of a tiny transgender community” which was once considered “niche”.

Describing how the expansion of transgender rights has gone “hand in hand” with an expansion of institutional regulation of speech and behaviour, the report accuses activists of hypocrisy in calling for freedom and equality for transgender people, while accusing those who question their approach of "transphobia" or "misgendering".

“Dictating the language use of others not only restricts their free speech but, more significantly, in compelling speech it imposes a demand upon them that calls into question their freedom of conscience,” Dr Williams adds.

Earlier this month, sources close to Boris Johnson suggested the Prime Minister was considering scrapping plans, originally drawn up under Theresa May’s government, to enable transgender people to change their birth certificate without a medical diagnosis. The proposals are said to have been ditched in a leaked paper setting out the Government’s response to a public consultation on the Gender Recognition Act. Downing Street has insisted that the issue of self-identification is “still being worked on” and said “no decisions” had been made.

Go back a few years, Jordan Peterson was warning us this bullshit was coming.

You can download the Civitas report here: https://civitas.org.uk/content/files/2454-A-The-Corrosive-Impact-of-TI-ppi-110-WEB.pdf

It’s worth a read.

Thank you. Archiving locally before the torch bearing trans army comes for the next library of data and research.

I think people really are catching on. The polls done over "self ID" are really important. over 90% are against it, and I think that was before the dog-pile on JK Rowling. Banning GC is a sign of panic. But, to make a boxing analogy, a fighter who is losing, or whose legs are starting to wobble, is most dangerous because they know they need a knock out fast.

Yep. It's a move of desperation. They know the gig is up and many more are gonna start questioning their narrative. And since that is built on nothing but sand and continuous re-enforcement with lies, it'll collapse only under slight stress. It's just that people on the left didn't dare to kick at it before very recently to avoid being called "transphobic".

This post goes into some detail about why both the polls that say the public is pro self ID and the ones that say it is anti are flawed.

(The whole blog is worth a look, it’s written by a male GC pollster.)

Sort of off topic, but Stuart Hamerhoff researches into the nature of consciousness specifically looking for quantum processes in our brain's microtubules. It has implications in quantum computing. He made an analogy about the order questions are asked and how that that altered the responses. I saw it maybe 6 or more years ago in a video of a talk he gave, I will never be able to find it again, so sorry for the lack of a link.

I think Helen Stanilan also raises an important issue, and she talks about it in her interview on Graham Lineham's yt channel, about general ignorance about what "trans" means. This is true of every issue I think, where those in power rely on general ignorance and disinformation to gain public favor for bad ideas. Here, too many people assume "Trans" means those who have had genital surgery to transition. I try to use "self ID" as often as possible because at least that term tries to be concrete about the range contained under the set "trans".

Now, to get completely off track ... Another thing that I try to make a big deal about is just what "identity" means in terms of public policy or law. Our identity is tied to our physical characteristics with regard to law and those in power. We do not put down physical characteristics on ID cards for trivial purposes, it is how those in power keep track of us and pin down who we are with no interest at all in who, or what, we say we are. Any use of the word "identity" beyond that seems pointless to me with regard to public policy. It is especially pointless to talk about one's inner or innate identity or sense of gender or anything. It is nothing more than a proclamation of faith.

This report is a great intro for anybody new to the subject. It covers a lot, including the labelling of lesbians as vagina fetishists!

Are straight men vagina fetishists too? lol

I remember when Civitas were the only UK organisation to run events on stuff like honour crimes and forced marriage back when the left thought it was racist to acknowledge that such crimes even existed. Although it was mostly BAMER feminists that got these changes made in the UK's policies, and really put harmful traditional practices on the map, time was they could only get platforms with organisations like Civitas. Maybe that's the kind of situation we're in right now.

Unsurprisingly it's a right wing think tank which will inevitably be used as the means to discredit the report as hateful and bigoted. Of course, it has to be as the chance of any nuanced assessment of the issue from the current left is about as likely as me learning to fly.

Have you considered identifying as a winged creature?

Niche really is the word. It's a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population. How did it get this much support?

It’s cause the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Us lesbians are not as hyper-vocal as the trans crowd because we aren’t in constant need of validation

So I realized the last couple days that I was not up to date on the current centrist leaning about sex and gender. The essay, especially the first chapter was super informative.

If I were to try to understand TRA reasoning, they WANT it to be true that there is no sex based differences in the brain because it makes them feel more validated, basically. And they apparently fail to address the hormonal sex based differences, while actively taking hormones to 'correct' their own sex based 'flaws'.

Civitas is a very conservative group though, a study by them is unlikely to get centrists or anyone left wing on board.

Is that true? I googled civitas and saw it described as a right-of-centre group, though they call themselves 'classic liberals', whatever that means. Anyway, I skimmed read the report and it didn't seem to have any especially conservative views about women.

Granted,it could be like us, they get tarred on the internet for being far right for not bowing to certain onsense.

Seeing us misrepresented so shamelessly makes me wonder if it happens to other people as well... I'm trying to develop a new habit of actually looking at what my opponents say instead of reading second hand reports.
