Very strange text, there are words but they don't really make sense.

Maybe AI wrote it.

Likely. Who knows. I think a lot of this discussion is kinda stupid surrounding AI.

The tech is cool and it can be used to generate a lot of inconsequential dialogue in games I think. But for stuff that is important to the actual plot I don't see it as something that will work well. Anyone who has messed with AI games knows they leave a lot to be desired but there's some novelty in say, having AI be your dungeon master, using it as a kind of directed random generator, it can't really do anything creative or intelligent.

I think people want like a Star Trek Holodeck for their video game, where you tell it something and it just makes it for you. We're a long long way from that assuming it is even possible. Its more like you ask it for something and it throws together maybe the most basic generic setting you can think of with a very predictable and trite plot.

Will be a fun side thing in future RPG for side missions I reckon, but it will have the elder scrolls problem of radiant quests.

Article talks about how AI can't make videogame stories... comes off as incoherent because it's written by an AI as well 😂

At least for now, the AI will only generate generic content as a sort of aggregate of all the documents that have ever been included in its database.

I concur with this.

I tried to generate some unique game mechanics by giving very specific prompts. AI ended up just rearranging extremely common mechanics and regurgitating them to me. I give it props for trying.

But that's how it works. It can't come up with original ideas you supply past information and it makes things based on that information.

I think that at best it can give you ideas from other people you might've never encountered otherwise, or perhaps remind you of things you already knew but have since forgotten.

Many many tropes, ideas and designs exist for stories and a human can't possibly keep track of every single one of them. This doesn't help outright making stories but it's currently the best tool for breaking writer's block.

It's also amazing when it comes to art. You don't know these art concepts but you want something drawn. You give it prompts and you get the art you want. Obviously not ethically moral to use it comercially. But nobody is stopping you from fapping to it.
