This is why competition is so important in the semi-capitalistic society we live in. Without the ability to choose a different headset this crap becomes mandatory. Thank god there's still other vr options, but for the people who bought an oculus before this was announced they're sort of screwed until a 3rd party breaks the encryption, which can takes months, or even years, if at all.

Thank god I never bought an Oculus. I knew there would be some Facebook fuckery going on before long.
