Wow, I remember reading about game reviewers being paid for good reviews at least 25 years ago. How do they have any credibility anyway?

Yeah does anyone refer to these reviews? The only thing that these obviously paid for reviews is that they can slap them on the box so they most casual of casual gamer will see the 10/10 and buy it for that reason alone. Best just to look for independent reviews and user reviews. The likes of IGN etc etc hate video games and "gamers" really.

I just don't get why people still want to hear what they say after all the gamergate fiasco.

The game tries to make you feel bad, exhausted, and uncomfortable when killing NPC humans and animals as you play through the game. But for some reason that's the best part of the game.
Sounds like the Tale of Scrotie Mc Boogerballs. People like it because of the reaction they get from it.

Nothing new, good reviews are bought. Wait before buying and see what real people say (the ones without checkmarks by their name).
