You want to catch those gormless looking, brain dead Starfield NPCs in a ball and put them to work? It sounds Better, but still not good.

A Critical Assessment of Starfield's NPC Design and Potential for Improvement through a Unique Gameplay Mechanic Introduction: Unveiling the Problematic Nature of NPC Design in Starfield The highly anticipated space exploration game, Starfield, has garnered significant attention for its ambitious premise and expansive universe. However, a recurring criticism leveled against the game is the lackluster design of its non-player characters (NPCs). Often described as "gormless-looking" and "brain-dead," these NPCs have been a source of disappointment for many players. This essay delves into the fundamental issues with Starfield's NPC design and proposes a novel gameplay mechanic that could potentially transform the way players interact with these virtual characters. Examining the Flaws: Why Starfield's NPCs Fall Short The primary criticism of Starfield's NPCs lies in their shallow and repetitive dialogue. Players often encounter NPCs who utter generic lines with little variation, leading to a sense of artificiality and disconnection. Moreover, the NPCs' animations and movements often lack fluidity and realism, further contributing to their robotic and lifeless appearance. This lack of depth and engagement makes it challenging for players to form meaningful connections with the characters they encounter throughout the game world. Another significant issue with Starfield's NPCs is their limited AI capabilities. They often exhibit predictable behaviors and fail to respond dynamically to player actions. This lack of adaptability makes interactions with NPCs feel scripted and monotonous. Players are unable to engage in meaningful conversations or experience genuine surprises, as the NPCs' responses are largely predetermined. Introducing a Novel Gameplay Mechanic: Capturing and Utilizing NPCs To address the shortcomings of Starfield's NPC design, this essay proposes a unique gameplay mechanic that would allow players to capture and utilize NPCs as companions or workers. This mechanic would fundamentally change the way players interact with the game world and create opportunities for more engaging and dynamic gameplay experiences. Gameplay Implications: A Paradigm Shift in NPC Interaction The ability to capture and utilize NPCs would introduce several gameplay possibilities that could significantly enhance the player experience. Firstly, it would allow players to recruit NPCs as companions, providing them with valuable assistance during exploration, combat, and various quests. These companions could possess unique skills and abilities that complement the player's own, creating a more strategic and engaging gameplay experience. Secondly, captured NPCs could be assigned to various tasks and jobs within the player's settlements or outposts. They could be tasked with farming, mining, crafting, or even managing trade routes. This would add an element of resource management and strategic planning to the game, allowing players to optimize their operations and grow their settlements. Thirdly, captured NPCs could provide players with valuable information and insights about the game world. They could share stories, rumors, and quests that would otherwise remain undiscovered. This would encourage players to explore every nook and cranny of the game world in search of interesting NPCs who could potentially offer unique perspectives and rewards. Addressing Potential Concerns: Ethical Considerations and Balancing Gameplay While the proposed gameplay mechanic has the potential to greatly enhance the player experience, it also raises certain ethical considerations. Capturing and utilizing NPCs as companions or workers could be seen as exploitative or dehumanizing. To address this, the game could incorporate ethical choices that allow players to decide how they treat captured NPCs. For example, players could be given the option to free captured NPCs, provide them with fair wages, or even develop genuine friendships with them. Additionally, it is crucial to ensure that the gameplay mechanic is balanced and does not trivialize the challenges of the game world. Captured NPCs should not be overpowered or provide players with an unfair advantage. Instead, they should complement the player's skills and abilities, requiring strategic decision-making and teamwork to overcome obstacles. Conclusion: Reimagining NPC Design for a More Immersive and Engaging Starfield Experience The proposed gameplay mechanic of capturing and utilizing NPCs has the potential to revolutionize the way players interact with the game world in Starfield. It addresses the fundamental issues with the game's NPC design by introducing depth, engagement, and dynamic gameplay possibilities. With careful consideration of ethical implications and balanced implementation, this mechanic could transform Starfield into an immersive and captivating experience that sets a new standard for NPC design in open-world games.

Semi-regularly I used to be hit by a bout of nostalgia and commit to replaying some of the point-and-click games of my tender years: Monkey Island, Space Quest, Day Of The Tentacle... the list goes on.

The only friend I had who also played lived on the other side of town and though I played regularly on my own at least once a week I'd drive over to see him and we'd spend the evening trying to make some progress on this game or that. Long evenings spent going back and forth between already extensively explored screens in the hopes of spotting something previously missed, or having a eureka moment and suddenly teasing out the next thread in Ron Gilbert's torturous logic. So many fine memories.

So I'd find a copy of Monkey Island or whatever on-line, download and install it. And then stare at the loading screens and wonder why the hell would I put myself through the experience again. Back then they were the only game in town -- pun intended -- and for every delightful bit of writing and Ah-Ha! revelation over a puzzle there were literally hours and hours of painful slogging back and forth across the map and fevered clicking or typing of cryptic commands.

I recall one game in particular. You typed commands like "Open door". You could also type "Open the door" but quickly learned that you could leave the direct object out and it made no difference. Except at one point the correct command was something like "Pick up the rock", ie. the inclusion of "the" was necessary for the command to work. This was towards the end of the game so the expectation to not have to enter "the" was well established. It took us weeks before we figured it out, probably by chance. I don't recall which game it was but decades later I vividly recall the sense of exasperation and annoyance. There's a reason why point-and-click adventures have not been a thing since their heyday.

Anyhow. I'll always have a fondness for those times and those games, but I'll never go back.

is it controversial to admit a class war is going on? The rich own the media which shapes both sides minds, who fight each other and both aspire to be in something called the middle class, which is a buffer between the rich and poor. Estimates say that about 25% to 66% of Americans are in the middle class, that depends on the model, I'd argue it is about 13% like the Outer Party in 1984.

The 50 Best New Board Games by Entropick in Games

Put the phone in the dishwasher, put the tablet in the hamper, take the tv and stick it up donalds ass, move your beeper......oh wait what year is it. Some board games are still being made and they're not cheap.

Secret Hitler is a deduction-focused party game like Mafia or The Resistance, but with significantly more jackboots and accusations of fascist behavior. The game begins as five to ten players are each given a secret dossier containing a party affiliation card and a character card. The majority of players start as generic 1930s German Liberals, but a few are card-carrying Fascists—and one of the Fascists is Hitler himself. Only the fascists know who each other are.

Each round, players elect a president and chancellor. Together, that duo secretly enacts one of three arbitrary government policies. The Liberals win by enacting six Liberal policies. The hidden Fascists try either to discreetly enact five Fascist policies together or (later in the game) to elect Hitler as chancellor. Every game will descend into a dark spiral of collusion, lies, and impassioned accusations. You've never had so much fun accusing your friends of being Hitler.

the best one.

None, because I'll end up using my own music anyway.

There will probably be like 1 or 2 good ones, and then the rest crap. Game un-original soundtracks get repetitive.

"The night has a thousand eyes" is also kinda interesting and might fit. It's used in the movie "Dark City" which I think is underrated.

You can hear Phil Collins behind this piece. But you're right, it wouldn't be hard to get rights for this song, and it would fit perfectly in the vibe.

Then don't try to earn money from it

Indie devs are not full time developers. There are many kinds of reasons for them to not patch the bugs. But this is a good point to focus your debate on; encouraging devs to patch the bugs after release. Can you give some examples of indie games with bugs (if any)? I would like to check out what the devs are doing about it.

I think I have rights to choose the person I debate with.

Sure you do. I asked you reasonable questions that will help you strengthen your case but it's your choice if you don't want to support your argument with facts.

And like I said earlier, they are usually just learning to make games more than trying to achieve perfection.

Then don't try to earn money from it or face people ranting about the selling of shitty buggy games.

Stick to the pyramid of debate.

Indie games are developed by one guy or very few people. "Indie" means individual. Most of them are not experts, that is why indie games are not always perfect. And like I said earlier, they are usually just learning to make games more than trying to achieve perfection.

No thanks

If you don't explain your problem, your argument is pointless. You did not say anything solid in your post, you are just ranting without support of facts. Stick to the pyramid of debate.

No thanks. I am not a fan of it.

I was trying to find an objective standard for video games, graphics is absolutely not an objective standard , since many people love to say pixel games look awesome. Therefore, I think the objective standard is "bugs". And indie games are suck at it.

video gamers is the group deeply believe themselves are the target of elites???

Can you give examples of said groups and elites?

Paid shills explain everything

Very few streamers are directly paid by the game publishers and it is not a secret; rest of the streamers get ad revenue and/or donations from viewers.

evil cult like fan base

What do you mean "evil"? Can you give examples of said "evil cult" fan bases?

pixel games could be good games

"Pixel art" art style is not as easy as it sounds. If the graphics are relatively lower in quality, the game designers compensate by making the best gameplay experience possible - that is why pixel art games are "good". Large scale publishers focus on both graphics and gameplay but mostly emphasize on graphics because they want the game to look good and realistic - thanks to high-end computers. Console games like Uncharted, Spiderman, RDR2 are relatively more fun because they focus on gameplay experience more than on graphics.

"Is "love"(may without money) making a good game"

They are not wrong, they do want to make a good game but the commercial aspect does not allow them to. Their deadlines are tight and they are forced to make things which feel more like commercial item than a gaming item (Fortnite for example).

personal attack anyone who dare give a bad review

Could you give any examples of said personal attack on bad reviews?

game industry paid a lot to promote this kind of evil cult like fan base culture.

Publishers pay streamers yes, it is not a secret; but again, what is evil? Please provide examples.

shooting enemies with a middle east face to die

If I was making a game and showed my own country as the bad guy, I might have to face legal action for not upholding the integrity and prosperity of my country.

They make the semi-finished game, and then they just ...gone

"Indie" - it means "individual"; typically one or very small group of developers. They are not an organised experts - it is no surprise most of them quit halfway. There can be many reasons for indies to quit - like not having time or resources or money, etc. More often than not, their objective is to gain experience and launch at least one version of the game, not to make the perfect product (unless they have that kind of time and knowledge)

most of the characters of the game had bipolar disorder

What's wrong with that? They just made a game inspired by a real life thing. Did you know that movies like Beast and Beauty, King Kong, V for Vendetta, etc. highlight Stockholm Syndrome?

you can find many child porn in the fan art of it on Tumblr

How is that the developer's fault?

Most old games you can definitely play in 4K (often even better than modern games since they're not as graphically intensive; for example I play Thief 2 at 4k but have to turn the settings down to like 2k, sometimes even 1080p, for for example Black Mesa). Problem is the models and textures, if that bothers you.

When I played an indie game ,the game looks fine at first stage ,a while later,I met tons of bugs later lead to I can't finish the game, that game wasted my time, and this often happen on indie games.

I don't trust the reviews of Steam.

Yeah there seems to be a trend of releasing on Steam, one round of bug fixes, then no further updates ever. Aka take the money and run. I still have faith in the Steem user reviews though, abandonware is getting called out more and more.

More than 30%, less than "most"… does "half" sound about right?

Also, if you're a mod: why delete stuff criticising you? That's just short-sighted. Either leave it up, and acknowledge that maybe that pattern means something, or leave it up and watch it be downvoted to oblivion.

Notice the obvious lack of social protections offered to non "traditionally marginalized" groups. And make no mistake, by saying traditionally marginalized, they mean everyone who isn't some combination of straight white male. But alas, straight white males who are not perpetrators of such social offenses are also victims of ongoing daily microagressions (and more) and should be included and protected along with everyone else. If you don't include that group, you're no better than those you claim to decry.
