I'm still not clear on why you think they are in those numbers though.

I feel like I don’t understand what you mean...

To be clear if there was no relationship between trans identities and sexuality it would be the same ratio as the gay to straight in the general population, no? Maybe that's not the thing we are debating.

Why are there so many gnc (to their trans identity) trans people compared to the background population.

Maybe I’m not understanding totally lol. I feel like I answered that! It’s because of socialization. If someone is socialized as a female and they transition they will probably still have some typically female behaviors or interests (for their society) because of that socialization. That seems to explain it to me. People can’t really change themselves even if they want to.

So this is strong gender essentialism?

I don’t think it is.

Transwomen who are androphilic and do female professions are the real women?

I don’t think that, but I do feel like it’s easier to fit in.

I'm not even getting into the TWAW or TMAM debate but you do see the implications of this. I say that as someone more on the essentialist side. I'm not sure you get all the implications here IMHO.

I don’t think talking about the effects of socialization is essentialist. Maybe the implication that it relates to TWAW or TMAM is a little essentialist. I guess I think about it this way because when I first starting questioning trans stuff (basically when I met trans people in real life) I was more essentialist in my thinking and noticing what seemed like something that didn’t make sense meant a lot to me. I probably don’t always think of implications in these conversations lol.
