Cold, too much cold here. This is going to be a long winter.

You don't have to use QT language. Using neutral terms like "they" to refer to trans identified users is allowed. And I'll talk with Heim about their argumentative style.

Hopefully saidit will last long, but I don't like all those down days.

Oooh I feel you on it bring too cold! Even with the fire cranking it’s icy cold. Gimme 40 Celsius days every day!

Idk that it’s worth your time talking to heim. Can’t shake the feeling they are a very dedicated troll.

[–]BiologyIsReal 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

40ºC is a bit much for me, especially because the weather is quite damp around here. Hot and damp, not a good combination. I prefer the sping and autum seasons.

Yeah, I can't say talking with Heim has been too productive in the past, but I'll have to try anyway...

Oooh hot and damp is yuck. I’m from the desert and am desperate to go back. 40 degrees, zero humidity, warm dry breeze. You do need to either get some thick soles sandals or build up some mighty hard feet.

The callus is gross but people are oddly impressed when you can run or jump on hot gravel or ashes.

Hey, I'm good. I just got back from my family's vacation cabin at the lake. Nice and relaxing, lots of swimming, hanging out with family and quality time with my partner. It was so nice to be back there since everyone skipped last summer due to COVID.

What’s up with it being okay to call people bigots again even after we all had to obey pronouns and use newspeak?

Did I miss some drama?

How long til saidit is dead?

Hopefully we won't disappear again. I figured out the outages all happened around the same time of the month. April 22, May 19, and June 21. I suspect a billing issue.

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (63 children)

Vacation sounds nice! Glad you enjoyed it.

No drama, just noticed heim is calling us bigoted in comments which rules explicitly prohibit yet everyone else abided by the rules saying we must use preferred gender pronouns/newspeak. It’s strange that a mod made the choice to allow namecalling but still expects gc posters to use policed language.

Does look like billing. Hopefully magnora let’s someone more responsible hold the reins.

I can't figure Heim out. They don't seem to want to meaningfully engage beyond making short declarative statements.

"They" is still a good alternative pronoun for this sub, right? That was the rule on the old debate sub, too. In lieu of "he" or "she," we could use "they."

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (14 children)

I think they was accepted, yeah.

It’s a long time to spend trolling, and incredibly intellectually dishonest if they are genuine in their attempts to engage. The weird silly niche philosophy they insist upon when it’s convenient screams troll, but their tendency to not respond when it would be a prime opportunity to troll says maybe they’re sincere.

Idk, they’re odd, but I resent the special treatment in being permitted to namecall when we’re all obliged to use tra language.

And not knowing your audience. A fair number of us here are unbaffled by coffeehouse poseur bullshit. And we're adults. 🙄

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I’m not super educated but I’m relieved that Heims personal philosophy is just as nonsensical to other people.

[–][deleted] 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Eh, I think the power source of any decent bullshit-detector is healthy common sense.

[–]worried19 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I don't even know if Heim is a trans woman or a trans man. But I'm happy to use whatever pronoun they want.

I agree that "they" is a good compromise word.

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I’ll use they because I have to. It’s hard enough for me to communicate with words without being given demands to stop using she and he the way I have for nearly thirty years. I cannot force my brain to see a male and think ‘she’ ‘woman’ ‘her’.

[–]worried19 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

For me, it honestly depends. I don't have a problem in general with preferred pronouns, but I view them as a courtesy, not a right. Online, you can't see people, but in real life, it depends if they pass or have made an effort to pass.

I would struggle to think of Blaire White as "he" or Buck Angel as "she" because that's not what my brain tells me when I look at them.

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That makes sense, and I don’t see anything wrong with you doing what makes you comfortable.

[–]HeimdeklediROAR 1 insightful - 6 fun1 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 6 fun -  (5 children)

There is no special treatment aside from you getting to insult people and then those insults staying up.

You all have never used QT language, so what are you talking about

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Am I calling you male pronouns? Was there not a big stink about how we can’t use sexed pronouns in the sub?

[–]HeimdeklediROAR 2 insightful - 6 fun2 insightful - 5 fun3 insightful - 6 fun -  (3 children)

I wasn’t aware there was a resolution to that discussion. In any case not using male gendered pronouns isn’t QT language, it’s neutral language. Funny how you can’t tell the difference, but I suppose that’s privilege for you

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Lmao yes my extreme privilege from considering neutral language no different to tra language when it dictates you cannot call a man a man.

The immense privilege of having men police my thoughts and words. Ahh the luxury and indulgence.

You gonna make any sort of point this week that doesn’t involve lazy assumptions of privilege and bigotry and lying? If you can pretend to respect a woman for twenty minutes you might be taken seriously for the same length of time.

[–]HeimdeklediROAR 1 insightful - 6 fun1 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 6 fun -  (1 child)

The fact that you can’t recognize neutral language as neutral is because society privileges your view of things becaus

[–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

The fact that you think man and woman are offensive terms that require a ‘neutral’ alternative shows you’re privileged enough to have never endured actual oppression.

Male and female are neutral terms. There’s no judgement involved. Observation of fact is only oppression when you treat your feelings and opinions as laws and facts.

I’m sick of being held responsible for males feelings over their maleness. They’re the ones who choose to interpret male as an insult. They should develop a shred of emotional fortitude instead of weeping and demanding women protect them from their own negative feelings.

[–]HeimdeklediROAR 2 insightful - 6 fun2 insightful - 5 fun3 insightful - 6 fun -  (21 children)

Ive contributed to longer form discussions but Im short on energy these days.

Well, I'm always willing to hear what you have to say. I hope you don't seriously think we're all evil. I don't want anyone to suffer. All people should be protected and encouraged to live their best lives.

I don't believe my actions hurt trans people, so we're at an impasse there.

    [–]BiologyIsReal[M] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (16 children)

No baseless acusations of fellow users...

    [–]HeimdeklediROAR 1 insightful - 6 fun1 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 6 fun -  (15 children)

Not baseless. It was proven in my comment

    [–]BiologyIsReal 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (14 children)

You proved nothing. You just compared her with religious zealots.

    [–]HeimdeklediROAR 1 insightful - 6 fun1 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 6 fun -  (13 children)

Sorry wrong comment. In any case I didn’t accuse her of bigotry I just showed how intentions are less important than actions using evangelicals as an example.

    [–]peakingatthemomentTranssexual (natal male), HSTS[M] 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Hi Houseplant! I read those comments and it didn’t appear to me they were directed at specific users. That’s sort of how we’ve approach misgendering too. It’s allowed with groups, but not with users. If I missed a specific instance where they called a user a bigot, please let me know.

    [–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Ah, okay. Thanks for the clarification! It was a general ~you’re all bigots~ statement each time.

    [–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Maybe I'm being slow, but what would an example of misgendering a group be?

    [–]peakingatthemomentTranssexual (natal male), HSTS[M] 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Saying “all trans women are men” for instance would be fine.

Addition: Or like, “I’m tired of women harassing the gay men on r/AskGayBros”. You can make statements about groups, but if you can’t say “userx is a woman/man” or use pronouns they aren’t comfortable with if userx is trans. Gender neutral is always fine though or just avoid pronouns all together. The rules don’t force anyone to use preferred or anything like that.

    [–]HeimdeklediROAR 1 insightful - 6 fun1 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 6 fun -  (20 children)

Says the person who believes in the objective existence of categories. I bet you think color objectively exists too

    [–]HouseplantWomen who disagree with QT are a different sex[S] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Are..are you trying to go for intellectually superior at the same time as your only-when-convenient nominalism?

Okay then, transwomen don’t exist and therefore don’t need rights or women’s spaces or to be called women. Misgendering doesn’t exist because sex doesn’t exist. I can call you a man because man is not a category so you could t be offended by it.

Bet you think you were clever there too.

    [–][deleted] 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (16 children)

Says the person who believes in the objective existence of categories. I bet you think color objectively exists too

"Privilege" is a category based on objective measures.

"Color" is a categoric feature of part of the EM spectrum.

"Language" is a category of communication.

    Just sayin'.

    [–]HeimdeklediROAR 1 insightful - 5 fun1 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 5 fun -  (15 children)

Color is a feature of the human brains interpretation of light waves. It doesn’t objectively exist

    [–][deleted] 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (14 children)

Incorrect. Frequencies of visible light exist with or without a human brain to name and interpret the phenomenon of color. Example: plants respond to certain colors (frequencies) of the visible light spectrum more than others in their growth cycles.

    See Euclid, Newton, Goethe.

    [–]HeimdeklediROAR 1 insightful - 6 fun1 insightful - 5 fun2 insightful - 6 fun -  (13 children)

Frequencies exist but the interpretation of those frequencies by the human brain into “colors” is a subjective experience.

    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/science/that-dress-isnt-blue-or-gold-because-color-doesnt-exist

    [–][deleted] 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (12 children)

Incorrect. Chloroplasts can't visually interpret color, but they biochemically respond to it.

ETA I seem to be doing a lot of this lately:

Color is a special sense receptor-perceivable attribute of visible light based on diffraction, absorption, and reflection

Visible light exists as a discrete frequency range within the electromagnetic spectrum

    Color exists

    QED

Also, I wasn't really sure if I should mention it, but there was also big news. My brother's getting married. He and his girlfriend (fiancee, I guess now) announced it on our vacation. So that's cool. All of us kids are long overdue for marriage based on previous generations. My family is pretty thrilled.

Joking aside, I am actually sorry that you and others here are being called bigots. I don't think you are, not that that necessarily means much 💙

Lmao you crack me up. Nah, it’s nice to know you don’t think that. You’re always reasonable and pleasant, and have been nothing but polite. There a good bit of value in the acceptance of reasonable and pleasant people.

Behind schedule planting out the summer seedlings up here, but trying out some new (to me) vining tom varieties like Sakura. We've definitely made it onto the doe-and-fawn version of Trip Advisor or something, mamas bringing their babies around and young does stopping by to visit. Apparently they've figured out that when the doggos can be bothered to bark at them, what they're really saying is "Come poop in the yard! We immensely enjoy your tasty pellets." Etc.

    [–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Ooo homegrown tomatoes all day!! Those will be amazing. Fingers crossed they take off! Poor dogs and their super poops, though, ugh. The beauty of nature is worth the grossness (sometimes), we must tell ourselves.

    [–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Thank you for the plant wishes! 🌱🌱🌱

Yeah, dawgs gonna dawg. If it's not a new and interesting poop-snack, they're scrubbing upside down on a poor dried-up frog (which thankfully I can't smell) or staring up at the corner of the ceiling (communicating with the canine mothership, I guess).

    [–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

NASTY 😂 At least they're just the best and so loveable, mostly makes up for the grossness lol But more seriously I'm about to have lunch right now and all I can think of is making guacamole with fresh cherry tomatoes.... Frogs, dogs, spaceships and tomatoes are racing through my head, so thank you in advance for setting up what will surely be tonight's bizarre dreams! 😁 well played, PT 🎓🦑

Magic! Hopefully they leave your seedlings well alone though! We had a cow get out and trample the lime trees last week the bastard!

Homegrown tomatoes are a delicacy. Hope they fruit nicely for ya! Our gardens sleeping except for the jonquils but the whole place still smells like pineapple sage.

    [–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Thank you! What a naughty cow tho. 😮

I've currently got two bottles of deer-be-gone spray to keep them off the berry shrubs and hostas, but the tomatoes will have to be netted again this year. They crop the tender leaders off of every. single. one. before deciding that the rest of the plant isn't to their taste. 😑

Or you want saidit gone because it allows women to say things you disagree with?
