That is the consequences of total monopoly on power by two parties and only two parties.

And with election system, where single vote does not mean that much, and candidate can get more voices overall, but still lose.

I’m not super happy with either choice, but I’m voting for Biden. He will appoint pro-choice Supreme Court justices and to me that is enough by itself. It’s been awful watching so many laws get passed limiting women’s access to healthcare since Trump came into office.

It was confirmed ages ago that Kavanaugh has not & will not make any attempt to overturn Roe v Wade, you political ignoramus. Uninformed voters are a huge reason the USA is such a mess. Voting Hillary got you Hillary 2.0, voting Hillary 2.0 will get you Hillary 3.0. Have some standards. Show the party you're not a guaranteed voter. Vote green, thereby making your vote more valuable to the Dem party, thereby pulling it left.

do you think the executive branch only has power over one judge's seat? It isn't just the supreme court but the entire judicial branch that is affected by the administration in office. That is one of the main things that the president can do.

This is no time to "pull the country left". If we lose this election, the DNC won't say, oh darn we should go more left next time - first off because believe it or not, voting for someone else isn't a clear message. Some people will vote further right. Some people will vote for no one. If you want to push things left, vote for left wing city council members and state senators and work with your local labor union. But more relevant, if we lose this election it's not clear there will be a next time.

You don't say. What was Obama's track record? Do you even know, or do you just make assumptions based on colour? How very American of you.

the DNC won't say, oh darn we should go more left next time

Hello? Anybody home? If Dem voters vote for Trump then obviously the Dem party won't think to offer anything left-wing – duh. But did I say to vote for Trump, or did I say to vote Green? If the DNC sees a substantial number of Dem voters voted Green then that'll show them that they need to compromise & offer something for left-wing voters or else continue losing.

Stop referring to the Democratic Party as "we", you were never invited. Those they respect they bribe, those they don't respect they blackmail & you have obviously been blackmailed with your "it's not clear there will be a next time" – whose fault is that btw? People who voted Hillary, instead of their conscience last time. Being forced to vote for appointed leaders is not participating in democracy. It's the same as abstaining, except it makes you feel good/influential.

You don't say. What was Obama's track record? Do you even know, or do you just make assumptions based on colour? How very American of you.

More likely they were making assumptions based on political party. Also I'm looking at his list of nominees and they seem pretty good. What was wrong with them?

If the DNC sees a substantial number of Dem voters voted Green then that'll show them that they need to compromise & offer something for left-wing voters or else continue losing.

Not guaranteed. After Romney's defeat Republicans turned more right-wing even though most of the party establishment believed the opposite was required. In any case that would ensure the defeat of democrats in every election until this assumed change of perspective takes place in the DNC

People who voted Hillary, instead of their conscience last time.

My conscience led me to reject making perfection the enemy of good

Kavanaugh is a rapist and a liar. Plus, even if that was true, Trump will get probably two more choices if he wins re-election. Also, they don’t even need to overturn Roe to restrict women’s access to abortion. They will just allow states to place restrictions on it that make it functionally impossible for women to access abortion. Many of these laws passed after Kavanaugh was place on the court. There are challenges to them moving through the courts right now. I feel like you have no understanding of this issue and the real life implications for women.

    [–]SnowAssMan 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Plus, even if that was true

    Just check it for yourself.

Also, they don’t even need to overturn Roe to restrict women’s access to abortion

Correct, they don't need the Supreme Court or the president in order to do that, since they've been successfully doing it throughout Obama's tenure. So how is voting for Milktoast-Obama going to solve problems like "crisis pregnancy centres" outnumbering abortion clinics? Plus Obama's neoliberal SC pick was no different from Kavanaugh. No matter who is president both house will be red, that's how you Americans always do it.

Access to abortion is a systemic problem that voting once for one guy will never solve. You realise "abortion clinics" are an American thing, just like "liquor stores", right? The rest of the world has abortions in hospitals & sells liquor in regular stores. What Americans consider morally corrupt they separate.

I feel like you have no understanding of this issue and the real life implications for women

If voting for Hillary & Obama didn't solve said problem, how would voting for Biden do so? Things weren't better under Obama, remember? This election is over, voting Hillary last time ensured that. It's all about the long-game, the big picture. The vote you cast this election will determine next election's choices – & that's literally all it will determine, it, & nothing else, just like last time. This vote is only a tiny bit of power with only a tiny potential effect, TV likes to convince us otherwise. Voting doesn't have big, or immediate effects.

If you had to do it over again, would you throw your vote away on Hillary in 2016, knowing now what happens? Because by voting for Biden this time, that's exactly what you're doing.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Incorrect and irrelevant besides. The difference in opinion between Biden and Trump concerning climate change justifies a Biden vote alone. Also voting green to signal to the democratic party is a foolish strategy and would ensure defeat in every election long before any hypothetical change occured. If you want more liberal democrats than people should vote for more liberal candidates in the primary and more importantly get involved in politics yourself. Chamge from without is more noticeable but change from within is how shit gets done

Have you not been keeping up? The DNC rigged the primary elections in 2016 & this year among other things to ensure the progressive candidates weren't options. They know progressive voters will vote for the established candidates either way, which is why we shouldn't vote for established candidates either way.

Voting for blue Republicans is voting for the status quo.

Yes and we moved the party more to left by participating and thus helped the progressive cause more then your strategy of voting green would do

Kavanuagh said in a 2003 that he doesn't consider the matter of Roe vs Wade settled and that in any case courts could overturn it's own precedent. In another court case he argued against letting an immigrant girl recieve a timely abortion, and in 2020 he disagreed with a majority opinion that a law that could have closed the last three abortion clinics in Louisiana was to restrictive. He's also a lying rapist He represents a major threat to abortion rights if given half a chance, don't kid yourself

    [–]yishengqingwa666 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

Neither one. But at least Trump knows that women are real and not a feeling in a man's head.

Biden has promised that the FIRST THING he will do in office is re-instate Obama's mandate that men who feel like women can use female spaces, and he also wants to sign the "Equality Act" into law in his first 100 days in office, which completely destroys women's sex based rights. He is also A CREEPY GIRL SNIFFER/GROPER, RACIST, AND FUCKING SENILE. I hope Trump wins at this point.

    [–]peakingatthemomentTranssexual (natal male), HSTS 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I disagree with the Obama guidance about spaces and I don’t support the equality act, but I just don’t see how you could prefer someone who genuinely hates women and is actively rolling back women’s rights. I guess I feel like thing like equal pay, access to contraception, or the right have any control over your own body are more important.

I'm not American but I feel like I can see a Trump win from a mile away.

If anything, Trump has gained voters since 2016 while the Democratic party keeps losing them. You just have to look up the #walkaway hashtag on youtube to see how many people aren't voting blue this year. And even the hardcore BLM/"defund the police" leftists are sour on Biden/Harris and likely won't vote at all.

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Seems more likely to me that Trump has lost voters since 2016 with his ridiculous antics.

    [–]emptiedriver 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Trump may win, but Biden absolutely could win if people would stop being such morons and just pull together and make rational choices to get this country out of a death spiral. No, he won't solve everything. But he would be a human being and he would appoint human beings into positions that he has jurisdiction over. There are steps that can be taken, compromises that can made which aren't great but are better than where we are, things like that.

Definitely, campaign for the green party for the next four years and see if it's possible to make it realistic next time. But this time, it is just not.

    [–]SilverSlippers 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Probably holding my nose and voting Biden - mainly for climate change and the supreme court picks, granted I live in a red state so it won't matter. Trump's prob. gonna win anyway though. I don't know ANYONE who is voting for Biden that actually likes him, which is really bad for election prospects. Trump has his core fans + people who hate Biden; Biden has only people who hate Trump, no core fans. Either way the outcome won't be pretty. If Trump wins there will be mass protests, if Biden wins, Trump will throw a fit.

    [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

    Firmly decided for Biden.

I wouldn’t vote for Trump if my life depended on it, because it does.

    [–]questioningtw 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

No question, Biden. He may not be perfect, but he will listen to scientists and will at least act like a president. I honestly think if Trump wins, it will be our last free election and we will slide more and more into authoritarianism.

    [–]worried19[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

At this point, almost anyone would be better than Trump in terms of mental stability and being able to act like an actual president. Even the most conservative Republican would be a step up.

Trump may be a wannabe dictator, but do you think he'd actually succeed? He can't get a third term.

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Honest question from a non-American, what has Trump done policy-wise that's been authoritarian in the past 4 years?

    [–]SnowAssMan 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Green of course. Voting for Hillary produced Biden, voting for Biden this election cycle will produce a Hillary-Biden equivalent next cycle. The DNC is right to court Republicans, seeing as Democrats are default voters either way because "they've got nowhere else to go". Voting green will pull the Dems left, since it'll show the Dem party that left-wing voters aren't guaranteed voters, that they have to actually offer something left-wing.

    • reads other replies all saying Biden * lol Americans sure are enjoying this merry-go-round. I'm no Trumpanzee, but I can't wait to celebrate creepy Biden's defeat. I'm guessing none of you have seen that compilation of Biden sniffing young girls.

There are two parties in the US: the Dem/Rep coalition & the Greens

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

    So throwing away you're vote

    [–]SnowAssMan 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

You've got an excellent argument concocting there against voting in general, but none so far for voting for blue Republican Biden. Voting isn't some tool I use to deceive myself into believing that I wield any sort of power over the immediate outcome. If I only ever voted for the person who was going to win, just so that I could pretend that I made it happen, I'd vote for Trump. But voting for Trump would make me complicit in all the things he does, likewise voting for Biden makes me complicit in the DNC's rigging of the primary election. I'm not endorsing corruption, sorry to disappoint you.

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Then you are refusing to take an action that would potentially help fight climate change thus becoming somewhat complicit if the worse option wins

    [–]SnowAssMan 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Voting for Biden won't potentially help fight clime change, prove otherwise.

    [–]SnowAssMan 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

LMFAO! You & I both know that Biden won't do diddle squat when it comes to climate change other than accelerate it. Do you even know who Biden is? Honest question.

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Don't presume what I "know". I believe Biden will be FAR better than Trump on the issue of climate change thus I have no problem choosing the optimal choice in this shitty situation and voting for him.

    [–]SnowAssMan 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

You must also know that the Green Party would be FAR better than Biden on climate change. Do you live in a purple state or something, because if you live in a blue or red state, voting for Biden is "throwing away your vote" anyway.

If you believe Biden will be "far better" on climate change than Trump, then sorry, you're too politically ignorant to engage in a political discussion with. Find some better news sources.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

    Are you honestly disputing this?

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Biden. I don’t like it but Trump is literally using fascist tactics, has personally set back trans protections by over a decade, and is poised to replace Ginsburg in the next election to break roe v wade and potentially overturn the newly minted job protections.

Biden isn’t great but Trump is a near worst case scenario.

    [–]emptiedriver 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I’m living abroad and I gotta say, things don’t look good from here. Maybe you don’t think it’s possible Trump could become some kind of authoritarian dictator, but no one ever votes one in on purpose. His best friends are Kim Jong Il and Putin. He has openly said war heroes are losers. He incites the fighting between different portions of the country and supports people who carry guns and shoot protesters. NOthing he’s done ever looked like it was going to be possible, including getting elected to start with.

Trump needs to be voted out unquestionably. This is no time to fuss over the ways Biden is not great. That means even if your vote is in a totally non-important, already-decided state, it still has to be clear we are all rejecting this fascist.

As for the Equality Act, it’s going to come to the table at some point, and maybe it’s better we get it there now. Having Trump there would just confuse the discussion since he would presumably reject it for the wrong reasons. Biden can promise to pass it, but if enough people make it clear why it’s not actually fair legislature, the debate will get stalled and the conversation will get out into the open, which is what we need.

    [–]worried19[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (20 children)

Personally, I hate the fact that this comes down to a choice between the lesser of two evils. Trump is terrible. Biden is also terrible. Which one will be worse for women overall? I don't know that I can even bring myself to vote. I live in a Red State, so it's not like my choice matters, but I hate to be unpatriotic by sitting out a presidential election.

The more left a party is the better it's going to be for women's rights, but I'm afraid you're not going to find a party (at the moment, in the US) that isn't a victim of transmania. TRAs outnumber RadFems in the public-sphere & they have much louder voices & they're really in fashion right now.

Remember when gay people were in fashion in the early 2000s? Then the news kept going on & on about marriage – a single right for everyone to focus on. Then they gave gay people the right to get married & everyone celebrated the supposed liberation of gay people & the supposed greatness of the US, & then everyone forgot about gay people.

The same thing happened with civil rights & women's rights in the past. Pass one law – problem "solved", put it in the history books to show off how great the US started out & just kept getting better all the time.

I suspect something similar has got to happen with trans "rights". Everyone on American TV seemed to be focused on bathrooms. So I thought they'd get everyone frothing at the mouth about bathrooms, then pass a law to allow trans-women in women's bathrooms & then American discourse can move on to the next divisive distraction/next oppressed group.

    [–]worried19[S] 4 insightful - 5 fun4 insightful - 4 fun5 insightful - 5 fun -  (8 children)

Eh, I don't want them to be left if they're in favor of censorship and government intrusion into people's private lives. I'm concerned about laws requiring affirmation only therapy for little kids, laws that favor the government taking children away if parents don't support them medically transitioning, women losing their legal rights to speak out, losing their jobs, losing their right to be imprisoned in a single-sex environment, etc.
