I guess the 1st Amendment doesn't apply to any of the US colonies now?

YES, the USA owns a LOT of territories around the world, including Washington, D.C. where people don't have the same rights as most American citizens in the 50 states.

Doesn't apply to most of the United States either, because the people are not allowed to peaceably assemble or petition the government for redress of grievances.

True enough.

I had always thought there'd be another kind of crisis, and when this crisis would hit it would trigger/activate martial law without rights everywhere within 200 miles from border. I forget what this is called, but it totally covers most of the population.

Maybe it was just 100 miles. https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/border-zone/ But I feel the thing I was thinking of was more and for different reasons.
