The EU is a weak weak organisation who claim to have power. Well Done to Poland :)

What should probably be mentioned is that Czechia is suing Poland and the fine from the court is the result.

Why? Why 50000 A day as well? Seems insane to me

The mining activities are causing problems on the Czech side like people losing water etc. The Czech side wanted the fine to be much higher also.

I see, But 50000 a day is incredibly excessive I am sure you can agree. What do you think needs to be done to stop the plant from damaging peoples livelihoods? Would they need to tear down the entire plant or is there a different way to solve the problem?

The number has one more zero at the end, so it's not a small one... I'm not a local so can't really judge the situation apart from these sorts of articles, but it does make sense that if the mine gets extended according to the plan then the negative effects may get worse... But on the other side of the border you have a rich source of energy and lots of people employed so I get their position as well... But at the end of the day one's freedom should stop where they start infringing on other people's freedoms so that's how it should be in this case as well I think.

Thank you for the correction. I agree with you now that I fully understand what the czechens were talking about. :)

Man made climate change is a hoax.

It would appear that the polish are actually smarter than most of Europe.

This issue in particular is not about climate change but the negative effects of mining that can be seen across the border in Czechia near which the mine is located

This issue in particular is not about climate change

That's good to hear. Thanks for clarifying.

From a link in the article:

  • Poland's Turow coal mine angers Czechs across border.
  • Czech residents fear falling water levels and noise.
  • Czechs have brought suit at EU court.
  • Poland seeking agreement to get lawsuit withdrawn.

I'm surprised there's no mention of contamination.

Is it an issue of water levels tables, and noise?

I'm not trying to marginalize the dispute. I wouldn't want it in my neighborhood.

It does seem that the people on the Czech side of the border indeed are afraid of their water being contaminated (in addition to losing it in their wells; apparently the water supply in one of the bigger local water sources has been decreasing in the recent years) and they also complain about dust:

According to the google translate version of this article, The Czechs are against the expansion of the plant, not the plant itself is that right?

[–]neomarxist_bullshitCzech[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Well my guess would be that the expansion is needed so that more coal etc. can be mined... so not expanding it would probably mean it would need to be closed in the future sooner or later.
