thomas more kinda invented it in his utopia and the jesuits implemented it on their reduktions in paraguay. and then later for real in russia.

thomas more was part of the counterreformation in england. the jesuits were the principal military order tasked to fight reformation since the council of trent.

the whole idea does have / might have gnostic, sufi, kabbalistic roots, but i am not researching that too much yet
