Staged seems like a loaded term here but I do believe the entire practice was definitely "performative" as you say. Gretta wants attention. The media will give her attention. So she goes to some protest that's in the news that already has reporters around because they know the cops are gonna break it up. She commits some mild misdemeanor or perhaps not even chargeable offense like refusing to leave, gets removed by the police, media fucking loves it and jumps all over it like a lion waiting to pounce. Gretta is happy because she gets her publicity, the media is happy because they get buzz and views and advertising money. And the police play friendly with Gretta because she isn't actually doing anything that is threatening to the police. It's just all media spin. Because " cranky lady who refused to move is moved by cops" isn't the headline that will sell.

Staged? As in it's fake? No it really happened. Purposely instigated by Greta for publicity? Absolutely.

Corporations don't like the dumbasses blocking their plans but they'll play the long game. Shit like this is great for them because it makes the protestors look bad and makes them lose the public support and ultimately undermines their ability to make any real actions that hurt the corporations bottom line. Plus we are all here talking about Gretta when we really aren't paying any attention to what the people were protesting in the first place.

It's a common issue with activism. Rather than making a well formed and logical argument towards your position these circles are filled with attention whores that actively undermine the effectiveness of their movent. We're all arguing about the crazy environmentalist types who have latched onto this. Bit none of us are discussing the villagers in question. Cause for me, I'm far more concerned that the people that live in this village which is getting demolished are getting a fair deal out of it all than the fact they wanna mine some shit that's bad for the planet or something.
