This is old news. The UK government wrote a blank check to the energy companies, limiting the bills people will pay to 2x what they're used to. It's fine because inflation is too abstract a concept for most to worry about.

Like the US, the UK leadership is so corrupted that they cannot effectively deal issues that span past an election or two. They will probably make it worse by giving out populist gifts for temporary reprieve until the act buys them the next election.
