This is not new. They've been doing this most of the year now. The wife loves going to the movies, and they're open, but everything has been getting dumped to streaming services so there's nothing to watch. And revenues are in the toliet.

It's new that the BIG tent pole movies are going to be online (basically free). It also ruins the prospects of a decent Dune franchise.

Here's the real irony. There was all sorts of pushback about P2P by late-developers of the slow industries. Apple embraced and revolutionized the music industry. How fucking retarded are the movie/TV industries not to have come up with a model that works by now. ALL OF THIS would have happened eventually anyway with or without the COVID.

I just think it's already been doing that for a while. Maybe it was more B list crap but there's been a ton of stuff that's streamed that would typically take advantage of the higher returns from theaters.
