Hard work is the main thing.

Most people are bad at networking and don't get their opportunities that way. For the majority of people it's a waste of time. What successful people talk about when they talk about networking is

A, having helpful people already in their social circle due to family or social connections they didn't earn.

B, having something other people want a piece of, so either they come to you with no effort or if you go to them it's a very easy sell.

C, socialising within their industry or class so they basically live their work 24/7 and all their friends are colleagues, no actual real friends.
