Treating ADHD with amphetamines was hardly a new invention. Psychiatrists had been doing it since the 1930s, albeit with slightly different drugs. So why was it Adderall - a weird combination of four different salts selected kind of at random by a sketchy diet pill company - that caught on?

Technically they prescribe the migraine medication Topomax for weight loss as well.

Adderall is a shitty drug, and after having a peek at my see-through capsules of the generic XR version this month, I noted that the quality control for at least the Lannett brand is shit too. The capsules, out of only 4 random that I chose, contained markedly different amounts of the medication inside--ranging from less than half full to 3/4 of a capsule full. I had wondered why I felt like my brain just wasn't with it some days, and others even felt a little anxious after taking it.

It's interesting that vyvanse has l-lysine attached to it. The claims mentioned were that it assisted with keeping the dosage absorbed at an even rate, and even some claims in the comments about it having anxiolytic properties. I've taken it before and wasn't able to finish a couple of months, as it made me so fucking paranoid that I didn't want to take a shower without my eyes open. It made me batshit, and a chore to deal with. I wonder what kind of physiological set up people have to make this shit work so effectively.
