It's fake news designed to make you sympathize with a dog. The dog is 7 and not time to retire yet, the cop got injured so can't work as a cop out in the field anymore so this k9 will be assigned to a new cop. It'd be a waste of taxpayer money to let a trained k9 dog go, it takes a lot of time and money to train them.
