Bike commuting definitely contributed to my "peak". I had two routes I could take to get to work, one was 5 miles and the other was 7 miles. The 5 mile route was right by an unleashed, fenced dog park. Thought it'd be fine. Bunch of people would leave their dogs unleashed outside of the fenced dog park and I'd end up getting chased. It's really frustrating, too, when you ask them to leash their pet and they act like it's the end of the world. This was definitely the beginning of me realizing how selfish and thoughtless dog owners are, along with how stupid the animals themselves are.
