This should be interesting...

A pretty good debunking from the YT comments:

The problem with this hypothesis of course is that Nero, according to Tacitus, was already killing christians before the gospels even were written, according to this 'theory'. Furthermore, the Romans persecuted the Christians during 3 centuries, why do this if this religion was their creation and was intended to prevent uprises. And last but not least, the benign Messiah, until this day, is not seen by the Jews as their true Messiah, so the whole purpose of inventing the gospels was a failure. Not to mention the fact that Paul was a persecutor of christians before he himself became a christian and that he wrote his letters 15-20 years before the destruction of the temple in 70 CE, after which the Flavians supposedly wrote the gospels...

For my own debunking, I'll add that there are 4 or 5 non-biblical literary mentions of Jesus within 100 years of his death. Apparently this is a very good amount of references for the time period.

I do like this Caesar's Messiah theory a lot, but I'm not determined to defend it nor am I remotely qualified to. Though it's nearly impossible that I'll ever consider all religions anything other than mass mind control cults employing social viruses of overt and covert psychology with resilient circular logic.

His Shakespeare's Secret Messiah theory is interesting too, but much less convincing in the face of others with more merit.

Joe Atwill's Powers & Principalities with Tim Kelly is a great show, but not without their obvious biases, subjective judgementalism, and errors now and then, along with who know how many slip ups (like the one about Trump's father I caught at 1:09:17 here: https://infogalactic.com/info/Powers_%26_Principalities,_Episode_047,_Proper_Transcription).

Joseph Atwill is atheist, not Jewish, and calls out Zionism at every turn. He's got some great perspectives, viewpoints, and wisdom, but is not from perfect with a few judgmental biases and blindspots that become apparent in time, like anyone. You'd like his stuff with Tim Kelly (Catholic) on their Powers & Principalities series, and Tim Kelly's Our Interesting Times podcast has interviews folks like Myth Of The 20th Century podcast who I'm almost certain you'd really like.

If true the Romans were much more sophisticated than I ever imagined.
