It says that they practice female infanticide on wikipedia. I think something is causing more females to be born than males and that's screwing up the population. the ratio is supposed to be biased to towards the male sex so the population doesn't explode. but if you have too many females the population grows too fast.

they often kill them in the womb once they see they are a female. I think there would be more being born if they didn't do that.
