I read this article three times and I still don't know the origin of this nickname. I mean, I get the 'why' (a shit-ton of peanut production - yeah, GA Farmers!) but I thought it would explain the origin. Now I have to go look this up!

from an African language, perhaps Bantu (compare Kikongo and Kimbundu nguba "peanut").
