As far as I know my Yahoo account does not require a phone number. You do need a second E-mail incase you lose your password.

I got locked out of my yahoo mail a good decade or so ago because they wanted answers to "secret questions" that I have no idea what they were, and never used, despite having the correct password. There is no support or anything, you're basically screwed, and you can't even let it expire and sign up for that username again.

AT&T Yahoo was hacked at least twice and they stole the passwords. I got locked out of one of my att.net accounts which they used for my Twitter business account and got it banned by posting bad stuff with it. My main AT&T Yahoo account has my phone number on it so they can't hack that. Not without bypassing my cell phone.

I heard about that, but never had anyone try to get in, nor did I ever find this elusive billion-password list was supposedly circulating.

Yahoo Mail does the same thing. After I entered my mobile number I started to get spam calls.

it does not fix your issue. but something that i recommend for google products is security codes or some name similar. only works if you have access, but none the less. Once you set it up it will key you use a recovery code from your list of like 10 one time use codes. Will get you in regardless of if you setup 2 factor auth with your phone or not. will even get you into your account without your password. I have that setup so when i use a new device and sign in (with the right password) it still wont let me in, so i hit choose another way to verify, and provide a code. Bam ez.

sure aint gonna help you but it seemed relevant and might be a tool to use in the future. Good luck! :)
