Faith in humanity restored... A tiny bit, at least.

Btw /u/JasonCarswell bringing this to your attention.

You wouldn't need Lemmy-Ansible but I think it's great and neato.

" Be aware that if you have federation enabled in the Lemmy config, Mastodon and Pleroma users can now fetch all posts and comments, to view them and share with their followers. The Lemmy blocklist/allowlist can not prevent this, it only prevents posts/comments from blocked instances to be shown on your own instance. The only solution to this problem is disabling federation, or waiting for signed fetch to be implemented. "

This has me wondering if the blocked content is still shared and archived. Signed fetch sounds curious, and if it's modular I wonder if other modules could be developed to serve our evil plans benevolent free-thinking purposes.

blocking instance: no

blocked instance and any federated instance of blocked: yes

I don't fully understand. I'd ask a question but I don't know where or how to start.

It's get crazy, I don't understand it all either. There's single instance policies and then the federation at large policy and then even the policies of your federated app vs other federated apps (lemmy and mastodon interactions).

But the cool thing is no one is in charge of anything, so you can easily hack up your instance to refuse to ever delete anything. You can get a 'this user deleted their account' message, but your instance says fuck it and does nothing. very hackable, no centralized blockchain shit whatsoever. no teams.

Critically, filtered or not, everything can be backed up - and when spam tries to abuse this it can be managed?

Simple but not: I'm for 100% open free speech 1) if people can set their own tolerance filters (ideally interactively participatory) 2) and if spam/STABs/porn/illegalities can be tagged or nullified if necessary.
