The sad fact is they’ve always been this way. Now they just have more power to show their true colors.

I grew up in an extreme leftist family. There used to be a mock up day care at the National Organization for Women meetings my mom would go to. She at least had the brains to stop dragging us to the meetings when a few people in the crowded shouted they should kill all the kids.

One day much later my mother asked to no one in particular but in all seriousness when it was going to be her turn to have money. I once had a friend who would routinely tell me to kill myself once she found out I didn’t fully adhere to her radical views.

Many of these people aren’t simply socialists (as they all claim to be) or even communists but Stalinists who want to see blood on the street. They are angry jealous people. Once I decided to walk away, I instantly became vastly happier and more peaceful with my life.

I’ve seen friends who were once balanced relatively happy people become so much more bitter and grotesque the more they’ve become wrapped up in their righteousness.

It’s not even doublethink. These are people have no ability for internal logic.

It's not so much no internal logic - there is a logic. But they have no internal consistency, no capacity for self-inspection, and are intensely jealous of others, so there's no rumors to follow for others to be able to easily comprehend the truth of it. Everything is relative and shifting - they just keep mentally pulling themselves up on to the nearest pad of sand, and when it begins to turn to quicksand below them, they jump again. This is why try in to have a discussion with them is so infuriating.

Still, it's definitely a logic, though not one that I can follow.
