While law-abiding gun owners obediently queued to surrender their weapons, illegal firearms proliferated. Last year set a record for gun violence.

Those criminals are breaking the law! Shocked pikachu face.

That phrase ‘soft on crime’ took on a new meaning last year when it was revealed the government had given $2.75 million to a methamphetamine rehabilitation programme. What, you might ask, could possibly be wrong with that? Only that the rehab scheme is run by the Mongrel Mob – one of New Zealand’s biggest and most violent gangs, and itself heavily implicated in the illegal drug trade.

Wow...

Since the below comments are of "guns of Kiwi" I am American and went down to live/work in Auckland in 2015 and within 2 weeks of landing I had me 2 very nice brand new H&K .45 with 4 mags each and 500 rounds in hand no trouble at all. And how did I manage that? By finding Mighty Mongrel Mob hangout and handed them cash as deposit with remainder upon delivered deal = easy. Simple. Done. And on the gun ban did that effect those like MMM? Why no! Not at all. Criminals never ever give up their guns. I've done exact same trick multiple times over to the EU where I know 81 abound and they deal in cash. My guns then for sale upon my leave = easy. Good as gold.
