You could have probably just thrown it back on the pan for a few minutes, I usually only semi cook the noodle in water (70%) and finish cooking it in the sauce.

A lot of it is in the brand. Barilla is nearly foolproof, be it spaghetti, elbow macaroni, shells, etc.
