What training does one do to become an English teacher?

And what are other abroad-friendly job areas?

Back in the day you just needed to be a white native English speaker and be of above average intelligence. Now the minimum qualification would be to have an undergraduate degree from a Western university of some sort and to have a qualification like a CELTA or something, which is kind of challenging. This takes a month to get, is hard, and you would need to be prepared. English teaching is no longer so great any more and hasn't been so for a long time.

So at your age I imagine you are on the JET program and will be going to a rural area. Good for you. Looking Japanese can be a negative because people naturally expect you to fit in with Japanese society whereas a lot of things are excused for us white guys, but I wish you well. I'm not sure this is a long term thing though.
