The difference between envy and jealousy is envy makes you wish to see the person with the perceived advantage over you brought low, whereas jealousy makes you want to bring yourself up to or exceed the person with the perceived advantage. One is a destructive force -- essentially if I can't have it then no one can -- while the other encourages development and growth.

On a side note all of communism can succinctly be expressed by one word: envy.
