by slower paced, I meant the action displayed in the panels. Basically what I mean is comics lend themselves better to thrillers, comedy and atmospheric horror than they do full blown action. As far as story is concerned, yeah, a single issue should have enough meat on its bones(with the right pacing) that you'd want to pick up the next issue when available. personally I only start reading a comic when it's already finished, when all the issues are done and out in the wild. I don't have the patience to wait a month for closure... who does, nowadays.

if it's a super hero comic it'll need some action. As for why super hero comics are the most popular type of comic, and also most popular type of movie now, that is another discussion. People crave a hero to save them, it's religious almost. And they want good to triumph over evil because they sense there is a lot of evil in the world today.
I agree it is good to read a comic story when it is finished in a trade paperback or graphic novel although one problem is wanting to avoid spoilers, wanting to be able to discuss it online, and the fear of missing out, it's not a huge problem but it is one reason why one might want to read a comic monthly. If you have to wait a year for an entire storyline to come out, or more, again many will lose interest. You don't have patience to wait a month but you do have patience to wait a year or more?

nope, I google completed comics before I go to the comic store. currently reading "y:the last man". I didn't know about it when it was a monthly release, and I don't know about the current "hot" comics in monthly releases. I keep my distance from what the current fad is, then read it once it's done. If that makes me a lesser fan of the comics, so be it. I've got nothing to prove.... on an unrelated note, I like miniseries better. Standalone stories wrapped up in 10 issues, no spinoffs, no revivals, just one and done....perfect!

y the last man is good, albeit too woke
in reality if a guy was the last man he'd be having 24/7 sex and not hanging out with a black woman
