The idea that nobody cares about Marvel characters other than Spider-Man seems so foreign to us now, but back in 1998, this line of thinking wasn't completely off base.
There are people who care about cartoon characters?

If I was a shareholder, id say I care because there would be money to be made. So yeah, there are suckers who care and there are people who want to make money out of these suckers.
